Material Scientist – Advanced Nuclear Technologies

My client is an innovative company revolutionizing nuclear energy and waste recycling. Due to continued growth, they are seeking a Material Scientist to lead the development, testing, and characterization of advanced materials for next-generation nuclear technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Design and oversee material experiments in collaboration with internal teams and external partners.
  2. Analyze material behavior under extreme conditions (irradiation, liquid lead exposure).
  3. Conduct material characterization campaigns and post-irradiation examinations (PIE).
  4. Support experimental facility set up for testing in liquid lead environments and radiation fields.
  5. Present findings and recommend material improvements for ADS systems.

Requirements

  1. Master’s or PhD in Materials Science, Nuclear Engineering, or related field.
  2. 3+ years’ experience in material testing and characterization.
  3. Expertise in extreme environment material behavior, including irradiation and liquid metal exposure.
  4. Hands-on experience with advanced techniques (e.g., SEM, TEM, mechanical testing) and PIE.
  5. Knowledge of liquid lead or lead-bismuth eutectic (LBE) corrosion studies.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Familiarity with fast reactors, ADS technologies, or nuclear materials.
  2. Experience in large-scale experimental campaigns or radioactive Class A labs.
  3. Proficiency in material modeling tools for radiation damage or erosion/corrosion.
  4. Knowledge of French or German is a plus.
