Microscopy Specialist with Focus on Multiphoton Intravital Microscopy

We are looking for a post‑doctoral researcher to join our Biometrology group as a Higher Scientist in Biomedical Optics. The role will be based in Teddington and will involve planning and delivering advanced optical techniques to enhance the reproducibility, traceability and comparability of biological R&D.
Responsibilities
Design, build and test advanced optical methods for biological imaging and sensing using classical and quantum light.
Perform biological imaging and sensing studies to the highest metrological standards.
Develop computational methods for visualising and analysing biological image data.
Collaborate with other NPL groups and external partners across academia, industry and international partners.
Prepare technical reports and disseminate results through scientific papers and conference presentations.
Work within collaborative teams to develop commercial opportunities.
Share learnings, mentor junior staff and act as an ambassador for our work externally.
Provide technical support for bids.
Qualifications
PhD (or equivalent experience) in biomedical optics or a closely related field.
Practical skills in the development and use of advanced optical and electronic hardware.
Practical skills in visualisation, processing and analysis of biological image data.
Good understanding of optical imaging techniques for bioanalysis.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
Desirable skills and experience
Quantum optics
Optogenetics
Multiphoton and advanced fluorescence microscopy techniques
Additional responsibilities
Mentoring of less experienced researchers.
Developing partnerships to strengthen capability.
Representing and promoting our work externally.
