Business Unit Lead, Skeletal Conditions – Frankfurt, Germany
Hybrid role
Closing Date: 6 July 2026
Summary Description
Reporting to the Country Manager Germany, the Business Unit Lead leads BioMarin’s Skeletal Conditions business in Germany. The role leads and develops a marketing and sales team to deliver revenue objectives and manage operating expenses for the Skeletal Conditions franchise across achondroplasia and emerging indications such as hypochondroplasia. The Business Unit Lead works across three organisations: leading the local German Skeletal Conditions team, partnering with the Global Skeletal Conditions Business Unit (based in the US) on brand strategy, lifecycle, and indication expansion, and aligning with the regional EUCAN Skeletal Conditions organisation on subregional brand plans, market access, and best‑practice sharing. Success requires strategic agility, business acumen, people leadership, and the ability to work collaboratively across a matrix organisation. Patient centricity is central to BioMarin’s mission. The ideal candidate will be equally inspired by the needs of the achondroplasia and broader skeletal conditions community and driven to expand patient access to therapy.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and execute the commercial strategy for the Skeletal Conditions franchise in Germany, translating global and EUCAN brand strategy into a localised plan that delivers revenue and patient-access goals.
- Lead, coach, and develop the German Skeletal Conditions team; build capability, set ambitious but achievable targets, and manage performance.
- Own the German Skeletal Conditions budget; develop sales plans aligned to revenue goals and available resources, and manage spend with clear direction.
- Partner with the Global Skeletal Conditions BU on brand planning, indication expansion (e.g. hypochondroplasia), competitive positioning, and lifecycle priorities; bring the German market perspective into global forums.
- Align with regional EUCAN Skeletal Conditions leadership on subregional brand plans, market access strategy, and cross-country knowledge sharing.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration with Market Access, Medical Affairs (MSLs), Marketing, Patient Advocacy, and Commercial Operations to ensure coordinated execution.
- Spend time in the field with customers and KOLs, gathering insight and acting as the "voice of the customer" back into brand and regional teams.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key opinion leaders, treating centers, and the patient community.
- Ensure all activities are conducted in full compliance with BioMarin policies, local regulations, and industry codes, role-modelling the highest standards of ethics and integrity.
Experience & Qualifications
- Significant pharmaceutical/biotech commercial experience (5+ years), including field sales management and leadership of teams.
- Proven track record in rare disease, specialty, or innovative medicines; experience in skeletal conditions, paediatrics, endocrinology, or related therapeutic areas is a strong advantage.
- Demonstrated people-leadership and management expertise; hiring, building, developing, and motivating commercial teams.
- Strong business acumen and budget ownership; results-oriented with a sense of urgency and the judgment to adjust when goals are not met.
- Ability to operate effectively in a matrix environment, influencing and gaining cooperation without direct authority.
- Comfortable in an entrepreneurial, lean commercial environment, with an understanding of the constraints of a focused rare-disease organisation.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills; able to build credibility with KOLs, payers, and internal stakeholders.
- Deep commitment to compliance and to patient advocacy on behalf of the skeletal conditions community.
- Fluent German and English (written and spoken).
- Willingness to travel.
