What you'll do
Assist in the development and implementation of company policies and procedures to ensure compliance with MiFID II / MiFIR requirements and other relevant regulatory obligations.
Manage the MiFID II compliance framework, including client onboarding, client categorisation, and suitability and appropriateness assessment processes.
Monitor and supervise compliance with MiFID II / MiFIR obligations, conduct of business rules, and the requirements of national and European supervisory authorities (e.g. BaFin, ESMA).
Monitor and interpret relevant MiFID II / MiFIR laws, regulations, and regulatory guidance, advising on their impact on the company's operations and business strategies.
Conduct risk assessments and reviews of implemented MiFID II policies, controls, and frameworks, including best execution, product governance, and conflicts of interest policies.
Undertake regular, periodic and ad-hoc reporting to internal and external stakeholders, including fulfilling regulatory reporting obligations under MiFIR (e.g. transaction reporting, trade transparency).
Collaborate with internal teams, including legal, finance, technology, and operations, to address MiFID II compliance issues and support broader business objectives.
Stay up-to-date with regulatory developments, including ESMA guidelines and evolving MiFID II / MiFIR requirements, to proactively identify and address potential compliance risks.
Provide training to business and compliance departments on MiFID II obligations, including investor protection rules, inducements, and conflicts of interest.
Assist in managing regulatory escalations and complaints handling, and support in creating operational structures that ensure ongoing MiFID II compliance.
What you'll need
University Degree in Law, Economics, Finance, or a related field, with a preference for candidates with a legal background.
Minimum 5 years of experience in compliance departments within financial institutions, investment firms, banks, or FinTechs, with demonstrable experience in MiFID II compliance. Prior experience within the crypto or digital assets industry is a plus but not required. Ideally, prior experience includes direct communication with supervisory authorities.
Strong knowledge of MiFID II / MiFIR requirements, including client categorisation, suitability and appropriateness, best execution, product governance, transaction reporting, and conduct of business rules.
Familiarity with ESMA guidelines and the broader European regulatory landscape for investment services, with an awareness of how emerging frameworks such as MiCA may interact with MiFID II obligations.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with regulators, senior management, and cross-functional teams.
Good command of written and oral English; proficiency in German is strongly preferred but is not a knock-out criterion.
Experience working in a start-up or high-growth technology or financial services company will be advantageous.
