Your mission

As Senior Legal Counsel for competition law you will play a pivotal expert role in Bitpanda’s growth by providing actionable legal advice in competition law matters, ensuring compliance with global antitrust regulations, and mitigating risks associated with market dominance, mergers, acquisitions, and fair trade practices as well as in other regulatory matters, particularly within the fields of crypto assets and financial instruments. You will be responsible for navigating the complex competition and regulatory landscape of financial products, ensuring compliance with local and international laws, and guiding the company\’s strategic legal initiatives in this regard.

What you’ll do

• Provide legal counsel on competition law and anti-trust matters, ensuring compliance with global regulatory requirements and develop and implement internal policies and compliance programs to mitigate risks.
• Monitor regulatory developments and emerging trends in competition laws affecting financial services and crypto-assets.
• Support engagement with competition authorities, regulators, and industry bodies on matters related to market practices and fair competition and assist in litigation, dispute resolution, and regulatory proceedings.
• Analyse and advise on the implications of strategic partnerships within the financial services and crypto sectors and provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders.
• Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of complex commercial and financial agreements, including those related to financial products, licensing, and partnerships.
• Support Bitpanda’s business development by identifying risks and crafting risk mitigation strategies and support the management of complex partnerships in the industry and ensure that the company’s operations comply with regulatory requirements and international standards.

Who you are

• Education : A law degree from an Austrian or German university with a focus on financial regulatory and commercial law.
• Experience : At least 4+ years experience, ideally in a law firm or in-house counsel role, focusing on regulated institutions and financial products.
• Competition Law and Regulatory Expertise : Experience in advising on competition law, digital markets, blockchain technology, and decentralized finance (DeFi) and good understanding of EU regulatory frameworks (MiCAR, MiFID II, PSD2, EMoney, AML).
• Language Skills : Fluency in German and English is essential.
• Skills : Demonstrated ability to work independently and solution oriented on complex regulatory matters, draft commercial agreements and expert legal opinions, and manage cross-functional teams. Strong communication and negotiation skills are a must.
• Leadership : Proven ability to lead high-priority projects and provide strategic guidance to senior management.
