Ready to step into operational team leadership? Blaby District Council is looking for an Environmental Protection Team Leader to lead and develop our Environmental Protection and enviro-crime service, protecting public health, improving local environmental quality, and supporting clean, safe communities.
The Role
In this key operational role, you will lead officers delivering Environmental Protection and enviro-crime services across areas including noise, nuisance, filthy and verminous premises, accumulations and drainage-related nuisance; waste offences, fly-tipping, abandoned vehicles and littering; complex, high-risk, escalated or politically sensitive investigations; and case allocation, technical oversight and defensible enforcement decisions.
You will also help drive performance, service improvement, partnership working, budget monitoring, policy implementation and strong standards of customer care, while supporting officers to deliver proportionate, evidence-based and legally robust enforcement outcomes.
We are looking for someone who brings experience in Environmental Health, Environmental Protection, enviro-crime, nuisance investigation, public health enforcement, regulatory services or a related field, alongside strong knowledge of relevant legislation, statutory nuisance, public health and local environmental quality powers.
You will be confident managing complex casework and making evidence-based enforcement decisions, with a supportive leadership style and the ability to motivate, supervise and develop officers in a busy regulatory environment.
Excellent communication, negotiation, report writing, problem-solving and partnership working skills are essential. Experience in noise monitoring, fly-tipping investigations, fixed penalty notices, works in default, prosecution casework, service improvement or performance reporting would be an advantage.
This role will require a Standard Disclosure and Barring Service check, subject to Council policy. All offers of employment will be made conditional upon receipt of a satisfactory check.

Local government across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland is changing. From April 2028, the current two-tier system will be replaced by two new unitary councils: Leicester Council and Leicestershire and Rutland Council.
