The Data Privacy Specialist (m/f/d) is part of BorgWarner’s Global Compliance / Data Privacy Office, ensuring BorgWarner complies with data privacy regulations. Primary responsibilities include working with the broader Compliance and Data Privacy team and business stakeholders, supporting day-to-day data privacy activities, advising business on data privacy issues and inquiries, participating in the implementation of the global group-wide data privacy program, assisting with data breach investigations and documentation, assisting with data management system maintenance, conducting in-person/online data privacy training, assisting with the coordination of investigations, and internal/external reporting as needed. The right candidate (m/f/d) must be adept at cross-functional engagement across internal teams to deliver consistency, maintain trust, and assure compliance. The position requires good judgment, strong written and verbal communication skills, great attention to detail, the ability and willingness to work in an international environment across multiple time zones, and the ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines. The Data Privacy Specialist (m/f/d) will report directly to the Global Data Privacy Counsel.
Responsibilities:
- Act as privacy advisory point of contact for appropriate business and functional stakeholders;
- Support the implementation of BorgWarner´s global privacy program to facilitate compliance and sustain the program;
- Support the day-to-day data privacy activities of the Data Privacy Office and provide support in strategic efforts to ensure data privacy compliance;
- Assist in handling inquiries and issues related to data privacy;
- Support with data breaches and data breach documentation;
- Coordinate and collaborate with the data privacy coordinators on a regular basis;
- Ensure compliance with BorgWarner privacy policies and standards for data privacy operations;
- Support in the maintenance of BorgWarner’s data management system;
- Support internal and external Audits;
- Assist in developing and delivering data privacy training to employees;
- Support in building and maintaining reporting dashboards;
- Collaborate with internal groups such as Legal, IT Security, HR, Purchasing, and Marketing to address inquiries, identify privacy gaps, propose solutions, and incorporate practical approaches into official procedures.
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree or Certified International Privacy Professional Certification (such as CIPP/E, CIPP/US) or equivalent;
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a relevant role;
- Experience and comprehensive knowledge of EU privacy regulations;
- Being comfortable with complicated matters and able to work independently;
- Experience working at a global company focused on data privacy;
- Experience in handling requests relating to privacy and data protection issues as well requests from data subjects exercising their rights;
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines;
- Analyst skill set – detail oriented and data focused with the ability to think critically and identify process gaps;
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills and ability to partner with cross-functional teams;
- Proficiency in English.
