The Company

A well-established international main contractor delivering mission critical data centre projects across Europe is looking to appoint an experienced MEP Design Manager to support its expanding operations in Germany.

With a proven track record of delivering technically complex developments, the business continues to secure flagship projects throughout Europe. Their collaborative culture, strong technical expertise and commitment to quality have established them as one of the leading contractors within the data centre sector.

Based across projects in the Cologne and Düsseldorf region, this role offers the opportunity to work on some of Europe's most advanced data centre developments.

The Role: MEP Design Manager

As MEP Design Manager, you will lead the coordination and management of all mechanical and electrical design activities from pre-construction through to project completion.

Working closely with consultants, subcontractors, Project Managers, Construction Managers and commissioning teams, you will ensure designs are fully coordinated, technically compliant and ready for construction.

You will play a key role in managing design reviews, resolving technical issues, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and ensuring building services designs support efficient programme delivery.

Must Have Requirements

  • Must have 8+ years' experience managing MEP design on large-scale construction projects
  • Proven experience required on data centre, pharmaceutical, semiconductor or other mission critical developments
  • Experience working for a main contractor is required
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical building services systems
  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary design teams

Preferred Experience

  • Experience managing consultant design teams
  • Strong BIM coordination knowledgeRevit, Navisworks or Autodesk Construction Cloud experience beneficial
  • Commissioning and project handover experience

Nice to Have

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer status beneficial
  • Knowledge of German or European building regulations

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all MEP design activities throughout the project lifecycle
  • Review consultant drawings and technical submissions
  • Coordinate design development with internal and external stakeholders
  • Lead multidisciplinary design review meetings
  • Manage RFIs and technical queries
  • Ensure all designs are fully coordinated before construction
  • Support procurement through technical reviews and equipment selection
  • Work closely with construction and commissioning teams to resolve design issues
  • Monitor design programme milestones and deliverables
  • Ensure compliance with client specifications, project standards and relevant regulations

About You

You are an experienced MEP Design Manager with a strong technical background in mechanical and electrical building services.

You understand how effective design coordination directly impacts programme, quality and successful project delivery. Comfortable working with consultants, subcontractors and project teams, you have the technical expertise and leadership skills to drive complex projects from design through commissioning.

You are proactive, highly organised and capable of managing multiple stakeholders across fast-moving mission critical construction projects.
