Job Summary
English and Exams is a dynamic and global community within the British Council, the UK’s international organization for cultural relations. Be part of a unique global teaching team striving to help English language learners achieve their linguistic, study, work, and life goals.
Our teaching centers and online courses build cultural links between the UK and 38 countries around the world, as well as supporting the cultural relations programs in arts and sciences delivered by the British Council.
Details of Position
Role Purpose:
· To deliver quality teaching and ensure the effective learning of English
· To support the wider aims of British Council and its cultural relations mission
Main Accountabilities :
· Plan, prepare and deliver between 6 -12 hours per week of high quality English language teaching that meets the needs of different customer groups taking into account individual learning styles in the Il-de-France region.
· Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to help manage students’ performance throughout the course, and actively promote learner autonomy
· Contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials and related services, in order to meet students’ needs by actively working as a member of the teaching team
· Complete teaching-related administrative tasks to specified standards
Additional Information
- Contract Type: Indefinite
· Duration: Permanent on completion of the probationary period.
· Contract Hours: 6 hours per week (for 30 weeks of the Academic Year)
- Right to Work: Applicants must be eligible to work in France. The British Council will not be able to assist non-EU nationals to obtain a work permit for France
· Working day: Wednesday & Saturday ONLY (opportunity for more hours)
Qualifications
Essentials
• Undergraduate Degree
• Cambridge CELTA and or Trinity cert TESOL.
Desirables
· Specific Young Learner (YL) extension course e.g. Certificate in English Language Teaching to Young Learners (CELTYL) or Teaching Young Learners Extension Certificate (TYLEC) or Norwich Institute for Language Education (NILE) etc.
· Either a recognised diploma in English as a foreign language e.g. DELTA, or
· Postgraduate Certificate in Education or Bachelor of Education in primary, secondary, or any relevant subject
Work Experience
Essential
· 1 years post-certificate i.e. CELTA and or Trinity Certificate TESOL experience
· Experience in teaching relevant age groups specific to the centre:
o Early Years aged 2 to 5 (400+)
o Primary aged 6 to 10 (400+ hours)
o Lower Secondary aged 11 to 14 (800+ hours)
o Upper Secondary aged 15 to 17 (800+ hours)
o Adults General English 18+ (800+ hours)
o Cambridge suite and IELTS exam preparation courses
Desirable
· Teaching experience to Young Learners:
o Early years (age 2 – 5) (800+ hours)
o Primary (age 6 – 10) (800 hours)
o Secondary (age 11 – 17) (1900+ hours)
Salary and Benefits
· Salary: 543 – 965 Euro per month for 12 months (Depending on hours offered, qualification and work experience)
· Guaranteed hours with competitive rates of pay including paid preparation time ((31 hours paid training time)
· Continuing professional development with an extensive INSETT programme and additional support for new starters with less experience. Internal and External courses available to develop your career.
· External training is funded by the Teaching Center for suitable trainees.
· Meals and transport are subsidized on working days.
· 35 days paid leave and allowance for privileged days
