We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Manager to lead and coordinate commissioning activities on a major data center project in Mainz.

This is a senior, site-based position requiring someone with proven experience managing multidisciplinary commissioning teams and overseeing complex mechanical and electrical systems throughout the commissioning process. The successful candidate will take ownership of project delivery, stakeholder coordination, programme management and commissioning documentation.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all commissioning activities across the project.
  • Manage the commissioning programme, priorities and day-to-day site activities.
  • Coordinate commissioning engineers, contractors, vendors, designers and client representatives.
  • Develop, manage and maintain the commissioning plan and schedule.
  • Review construction programmes, short-term lookaheads and system readiness.
  • Oversee mechanical and electrical commissioning through L2–L5, including integrated systems testing.
  • Manage the review and production of commissioning scripts, test procedures and associated documentation.
  • Ensure testing activities are completed safely, correctly and in accordance with project specifications.
  • Lead commissioning meetings and provide clear progress updates to key stakeholders.
  • Monitor commissioning milestones, identify potential delays and implement recovery measures.
  • Manage technical issues, defects and commissioning observations through to resolution.
  • Ensure commissioning records, test results and reports are accurate, complete and properly uploaded.
  • Coordinate load-bank testing, functional performance testing and integrated systems testing.
  • Prepare daily, weekly and final commissioning reports.
  • Support project handover, closeout documentation, operational readiness and lessons learned.
  • Significant experience working as a Commissioning Manager on large-scale data center or mission-critical projects.
  • A proven track record of managing multidisciplinary commissioning teams and complex project interfaces.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical data center systems.
  • Experience managing commissioning activities through L2–L5, including IST.
  • Strong understanding of commissioning plans, programmes, scripts and technical documentation.
  • Confident managing clients, general contractors, vendors and other project stakeholders.
  • Able to lead meetings, resolve technical issues and maintain progress against demanding project milestones.
  • Strong leadership, organisation, communication and reporting skills.
  • Professional fluency in English.
  • Availability to work on site in Mainz for the duration of the assignment.
  • Existing right to work in Germany.
  • Previous experience working for a commissioning consultancy or commissioning authority.
  • Relevant mechanical or electrical engineering qualification.
  • Experience with recognised commissioning management and document-control platforms.

This is an initial three-month contract with the potential to extend, offering the opportunity to take a leading role on a major European data center project.
