Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Office Chief of Maintenance, a Supervising Transportation Engineer, the incumbent is responsible for maintaining the health of electrical field elements and delivering electrical Minor "B" projects. This position will direct a staff of Transportation Engineers and Transportation Engineering Technicians. This position requires possession of a valid certificate of registration as an Electrical Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.

Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Senior Transportation Electrical Engineer exam.

This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

Working Conditions

Position located at 1352 W. Olive Avenue, Fresno County.

Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment. The incumbent will generally perform assignments in a climate-controlled office under artificial lighting. Incumbent will be required to travel and conduct field reviews outdoors and may be exposed to traffic, dirt, noise, uneven surfaces and extreme heat or cold. The incumbent may be required to work outside of the normal working hours, including evenings, nights and weekends to accomplish the required tasks needed for successful projects. 1. Demonstrated ability to supervise or lead staff.
2. Demonstrated design experience in preparing plans and specifications for electrical infrastructure projects.
3. Demonstrated experience collaborating with internal and external partners, including regulatory agencies, local agencies, and elected officials.
4. Demonstrated experience overseeing the construction or inspection of electrical infrastructure and coordinating with contractors.
5. Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills, including effectively delivering presentations.
6. Demonstrated capacity for innovation and improving efficiency.

Incumbent must retain a valid PE license, register as an electrical engineer, have a high degree of expertise in electrical engineering and must be able to analyze situations accurately and take effective action. Must have the ability to evaluate, prioritize, and schedule the workload to ensure timely completion.
