The ideal candidate for our Mechanical Engineer position is someone who performs productively in a fast-paced environment, can work both independently and as part of a team and possesses an eagerness to be part of a dynamic group of creative individuals. The right individual will possess the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Job Description:

  • Contribute to the design and development of 2D and 3D image capture equipment
  • Work closely with scientists, industrial designers, electrical engineers, manufacturers, and assembly personnel to bring products from concept to reality
  • Develop assemblies and system architecture based on input requirements
  • Design parts for a range of manufacturing processes, including but not limited to machining, injection molding, sheet metal forming, aluminum casting, and 3D printing
  • Select materials, create manufacturing prints, and work closely with part suppliers to ensure that parts meet design specifications
  • Build prototypes of mechanisms and devices, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and create testing and alignment fixtures as necessary
  • Research and analyze design proposals, specifications, and other data to assess the feasibility, cost, and maintenance of designs/systems
  • Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to make recommendations for improvement

Core Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
  • At least 5 years of demonstrated experience engineering parts and assemblies for commercial, consumer, or medical products
  • Strong understanding of DFM/DFA principles and a design approach that puts those principles into practice
  • Experienced in designing injection molded housings with a sound understanding of the molding process capabilities, limitations, and design considerations
  • Proficient in SolidWorks for 3D modelling and 2D part and assembly drawings
  • Knowledgeable in all aspects of product design (prototyping through full production release and ongoing support)

Desired:

  • Medical device or other regulated industry experience
  • Experience working within SolidWorks PDM database and surface modeling is a plus
  • Experienced with providing technical support to manufacturing and production test departments
