We are hiring an Engineering Manager for Ceph & Distributed Storage. As data creation exceeds 2.5 quintillion bytes daily, we aim to facilitate safe, affordable, and simple storage solutions using open source software on commodity hardware. Our goal is to make Ceph easy to install, manage, and use across various scales, from large data centers to edge sites. We believe distributed storage should be accessible and straightforward, and we are committed to making it so.
As an engineering manager at Canonical, you must be technically proficient and capable of running an effective team and developing your colleagues. Your responsibilities include fostering growth, ensuring high-quality work, and collaborating effectively with colleagues and the community. You should have a background in software engineering, provide technical leadership, influence company culture positively, facilitate technical delivery, and oversee sound software architecture, quality, testing, and documentation.
What you\’ll do
- Lead a team developing a Ceph-focused software-defined storage solution
- Build and manage a globally distributed engineering team
- Mentor, coach, and develop team members
- Contribute technically to achieve team goals
- Set realistic schedules with feedback loops for continuous improvement
- Manage expectations with other teams and stakeholders
- Promote modern, agile software development practices
- Maintain a culture of quality and engineering excellence
- Foster a collaborative, healthy engineering culture aligned with company values
- Participate actively in leadership and collaborate with other leaders
- Work remotely with up to 20% global travel for internal and external events
Who you are
- Have a software engineering background, preferably with Python and C++ experience
- Experience operating scalable storage clusters on Linux, preferably with Ceph
- Enthusiastic about adopting new technologies and pushing boundaries
- Passionate about developing and growing engineering talent
- Interested in building products that enhance software and infrastructure operations
- Knowledgeable and passionate about software development
- Experienced in leading, managing, coaching, and mentoring software developers
- Solid experience working in agile environments
