HSE Manager - Data Centres

The Opportunity

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced HSE Manager to join a leading engineering and construction business delivering major hyperscale data centre projects across Germany.

Working as part of an established Health, Safety & Environmental team, you will play a key role in driving a positive safety culture on a large-scale, fast-paced construction project. You will work closely with project leadership, subcontractors and client representatives to ensure the highest standards of health, safety and environmental compliance are maintained throughout the project lifecycle.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced HSE professional with a strong construction background and a thorough understanding of German HSE legislation.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement and promote the company's Health, Safety and Environmental Management System across the project.
• Ensure compliance with German construction health and safety legislation and industry best practice.
• Provide practical HSE advice and guidance to project teams, management and subcontractors.
• Carry out regular site inspections, audits and safety leadership tours.
• Monitor contractor compliance and ensure corrective actions are implemented and closed out.
• Lead accident and incident investigations, producing detailed reports and lessons learned.
• Review Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) prior to works commencing.
• Manage permit-to-work systems and ensure appropriate controls are in place.
• Deliver site inductions, Black Hat Awareness training, toolbox talks and ongoing HSE coaching.
• Maintain project safety documentation including Construction Phase Health & Safety Plans, fire risk assessments and safety files.
• Chair regular HSE meetings and present KPI reports to project leadership.
• Support emergency preparedness through regular drills and risk mitigation activities.
• Liaise with clients, consultants and local authorities on all HSE matters.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety performance across the project.

Requirements

• Proven experience as an HSE Manager within large-scale construction projects.
• Previous experience delivering mission critical or data centre projects is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of German Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and construction regulations.
• Experience conducting site audits, inspections and incident investigations.
• Strong understanding of RAMS, permit-to-work systems and contractor management.
• Experience delivering HSE training, inductions and toolbox talks.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to influence site teams and promote a proactive safety culture.
• NEBOSH Construction Certificate, Diploma or equivalent HSE qualification preferred.
• Fluent English is essential. German language skills would be advantageous.
