About the Opportunity

We are supporting a global data center organization seeking experienced Critical Facility Shift Technicians to join a live, mission-critical data center operations team in Germany.

This position is focused on the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of critical facility infrastructure. The technician will support energy isolation, electrical switching activities, facility rounds, alarm response, preventive maintenance, and incident response while following established safety and operational procedures.

This is a shift-based position supporting a 24/7 operation and requires flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Main Responsibilities

Critical Facility Operations

  • Conduct scheduled and unscheduled facility rounds and inspect critical electrical, mechanical, HVAC, fire/life safety, and security systems.
  • Monitor BMS, EPMS, and other facility monitoring platforms for alarms, alerts, and abnormal operating conditions.
  • Respond to alarms and operational events according to established procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of alarms, facility events, isolations, maintenance activities, and shift activities.
  • Perform routine inspections and assigned preventive maintenance activities.

Energy Isolation & Electrical Switching

  • Execute energy isolation and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures in accordance with safety requirements.
  • Perform and document switchgear activities, including breaker racking, transfer switch operations, and panel isolations.
  • Verify equipment isolation and de-energization before work begins.
  • Ensure proper signage, barricading, authorization, and communication during isolation activities.
  • Coordinate planned and emergency isolations with internal teams, contractors, and vendors.
  • Maintain accurate documentation covering isolation, verification, restoration, and switching activities.
  • Respond to system alarms, equipment notifications, and abnormal facility conditions.
  • Perform initial troubleshooting and diagnostics and escalates complex issues when required.
  • Support incident response, system recovery, and safe shutdown activities.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and post-incident reporting.

Safety, Compliance & Documentation

  • Follow applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform work according to approved Method of Procedure (MOP), Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), and Emergency Operating Procedure (EOP) documentation.
  • Maintain accurate and current documentation for facility rounds, maintenance, isolations, switching activities, and operational events.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safe work practices within a live mission-critical environment.
  • Identify opportunities to improve facility reliability, operational processes, and risk reduction.
  • Participate in technical training and operational reviews.
  • Assist with the development and review of procedures, documentation, and operational playbooks.
  • Work closely with other technicians, shift leadership, vendors, and facility teams.
  • Share technical knowledge and contribute to a strong culture of teamwork and accountability.

Qualifications & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification in electrical, mechanical, HVAC, or a related discipline preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience working in a mission-critical environment such as a data center, hospital, industrial facility, manufacturing plant, or similar environment.
  • Hands-on experience with energy isolation, LOTO, and electrical switching activities.
  • Strong understanding of critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure, including UPS systems, generators, switchgear, PDUs, CRAC/CRAH units, and fire/life safety systems.
  • Experience using BMS and/or EPMS platforms for facility monitoring and alarm management.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical one-line diagrams and technical operating procedures.
  • Experience working with MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs.
  • Knowledge of applicable electrical and workplace safety practices and standards.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work within a 24/7 shift environment, including nights, weekends, and holidays when required.
  • Strong teamwork, accountability, and safety mindset.

The position provides opportunities to develop deeper expertise in critical facility operations, electrical safety, incident response, maintenance, and vendor coordination.

Technicians may progress into increasingly complex maintenance, switching, troubleshooting, and isolation responsibilities while pursuing relevant technical certifications and manufacturer training.

Strong performers may also take on mentoring and procedure-development responsibilities, with potential progression into Senior Technician, Lead Technician, Supervisor, or other critical facilities leadership positions.
