Research Assistant (Ph.D. Student): The School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Wuppertal invites applications for a Research Assistant (Ph.D. student) position in the Research Group of Organic Chemistry. This position is available from August 1, 2024, and is limited to a period of up to three years. The successful candidate will work part-time (50% of the tariff working hours) with a salary grade of E 13 TV-L.

- A completed university degree (Master’s or comparable) in Chemistry
- Experience in organic synthesis and radical chemistry
- Experience working under inert conditions is beneficial
- Experience in photo/electrochemistry is advantageous
- Competence in the characterisation of compounds using spectroscopy
- Interest in materials science is advantageous
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken); German skills are beneficial
Job Description
- High motivation and commitment to scientific excellence
- Development of novel radical methodologies using (photo)redox chemistry or electrochemistry
- Development of novel cyclopropanation methods
- Study of fundamental reactivity of electrophilic cyclopropanes
- Design and synthesis of catalysts and organometallic complexes
- Development and optimisation of catalytic reactions and processes
- Analysis and characterisation of compounds using 1H/13C NMR methods (COSY, HSQC, HMBC, NOESY), IR, etc.
- Teaching responsibilities in Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs (seminars, laboratory practicals, etc.) (2 LVS)
