About the Job
We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer (f/m/d) to join our R&D team directly under our CTO. You will own the technical work that makes Certivity mission‑critical for our largest enterprise customers. In this role you will design and run data migrations from customer legacy systems into our platform, build and maintain API connectors and the integrations our customers depend on, and work hands‑on with backend services across Python, Java/Spring Boot and MongoDB on AWS.
You will have the opportunity to work on challenging problems at the intersection of enterprise data integration, customer engineering, and regulatory data at scale. As part of our growing team, you will have significant impact on how our largest customers experience Certivity and on the patterns we build into the core product.
What you will do
- Migrate customer data from legacy source systems (e.g. IBM Doors, internal databases) into the Certivity platform, with rigorous attention to data correctness and reconciliation.
- Build API connectors and integrations between the Certivity API and customer services and tools.
- Design, build and maintain backend services and REST APIs that power customer‑specific workflows and integrations.
- Develop customer‑specific tools, mostly backend, sometimes lightweight UIs, that solve concrete problems for customer IT, engineering and regulatory teams.
- Be the primary technical contact for our largest customers, answering technical questions from customer IT departments, engineers and regulatory experts directly.
- Work closely with our CTO, customer success and software teams on key accounts.
- Contribute back to the core product, including our Customer Platform, Crawling (Python) and full‑stack (Java/Spring Boot, React) teams when customer workload allows.
- Use AI coding tools as a core part of your daily delivery to move fast across an intentionally polyglot stack.
- Take end‑to‑end ownership of customer‑facing technical projects and deliver high‑quality solutions with measurable impact.
Your profile
- 5+ years of hands‑on professional software development experience, including direct customer contact.
- Strong backend focus with proven experience in programming languages like Python or Java; comfortable working in a polgylot stack when needed.
- Hands‑on experience with data migrations from legacy source systems into modern target databases, including schema mapping, validation and reconciliation.
- Experience designing, building, maintaining and integrating REST APIs at scale.
- Experience with at least one cloud platform (AWS, Azure or GCP) and document or NoSQL databases (MongoDB or comparable).
- Demonstrated effective use of AI coding tools (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) in production delivery, you can move fast across unfamiliar stacks because of this.
- Experience with Docker and modern CI/CD workflows.
- Fluent spoken and written English at C1 level (company language is English, no German needed).
- Based in or willing to relocate to Munich or Stuttgart.
Nice to have
- Experience with IBM Doors / DOORS Next or other requirements management systems.
- Familiarity with Python, Java/Spring Boot, React, or web crawling to ease cross‑team support.
- Familiarity with Apache Airflow, Ansible, or serverless architectures.
- Experience with regulatory, compliance, or other highly structured data domains.
- Familiarity with LLM APIs and AI‑driven workflow automation.
Why us?
- A vibrant in‑office culture in a beautiful office in Munich (mandatory presence at least 2 to 3 days/week; based in Stuttgart possible with regular Munich onsite).
- 26+4 vacation days per year (4 fixed "company rest days").
- 30 days of "workation" per year, within the EU and selected countries.
- High autonomy and flat hierarchies.
- EGYM Wellpass for unlimited access to fitness courses and gyms.
- Udemy access for educational videos.
