Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced and driven finance professional to help build a robust and scalable organisation at Level Nine, a Berlin-based AI‑driven catalyst discovery platform. This mission‑critical role will support the technical team by strategically financing growth.
Tasks
- Own the daily financial engine: manage day‑to‑day financial operations—daily accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, invoice tracking, and payments; master cash flow and budgeting.
- Build AI automations: continuously look for ways to automate daily operations (AI agents, smart software layers, custom workflows) to minimise paperwork and maximise strategic impact.
- Operational excellence: maintain clean documentation for ongoing legal and fiscal compliance and keep the company audit‑ready for investors and funding agencies.
- Risk management: own vendor relationships, purchasing processes, proactively identify business risks; caretaker of the company’s capital and risk portfolio.
- Own and update financial models: build and maintain complex financial models, run scenario planning for scaling; determine equity, debt, joint development structures; provide techno‑economic analyses.
- Partner with commercial & BD: work directly with the CEO and BD team to stress‑test and evaluate commercial deals, ensuring alignment with long‑term financial strategy.
- Strategic reporting: handle financial reporting for the CEO and investors, telling the strategic story behind the numbers.
- Coordinate fundraising logistics: prepare the data room, manage due diligence checklists, and supply financial materials for investor discussions.
- Unlock non‑dilutive funding: actively participate in grant writing, grant modelling and compliance reporting to secure funding without equity dilution.
Requirements
- 5–10 years of relevant experience, ideally in operational finance within a startup, deep‑tech or hard‑tech environment.
- Strong foundational understanding of corporate finance and exposure to blended finance / project finance structures.
- Excel expert but enthusiastic about building systems that run automatically; keen on leveraging AI tools, APIs, and workflow integrations.
- Solid grasp of corporate law and compliance frameworks; ability to interpret contracts, spot red‑flags, and protect the business.
- Proactive, high‑agency mindset; solves ambiguous challenges as puzzles.
- Fluent in German (C1, essential for local authorities, Finanzamt, and legal docs) and English; excellent communication skills; able to represent the company to investors and clients.
