Role Description

The Surgical Technologist is a full-time, on-site role based in Newark, DE, supporting surgical teams in a fast-paced operating room environment. This role prepares operating rooms by setting up sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment, and ensures proper sterilization and infection control practices are followed. The Surgical Technologist assists surgeons and registered nurses during procedures by anticipating needs, passing instruments, handling specimens, and maintaining an organized, safe surgical field. Daily responsibilities include verifying patient and procedure information, participating in pre-operative and post-operative room turnover, and adhering to established clinical protocols and safety standards. The role also involves collaborating with multidisciplinary team members, documenting required information accurately, and contributing to continuous quality and process improvement efforts.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Surgical Technology, including sterile technique, instrumentation, and perioperative procedures.
  • Experience working in the Operating Room, with familiarity in workflow, safety standards, and infection prevention practices.
  • Skills in Surgical Assisting, such as anticipating surgeon needs, managing surgical supplies, and supporting intraoperative tasks.
  • Foundational knowledge of Medicine and Surgery relevant to common surgical specialties and patient care principles.
  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program; certification (e.g., CST) preferred or ability to obtain within required timeframe.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and adherence to all applicable regulatory and hospital policies.
  • Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and ability to remain focused in high-pressure, time-sensitive situations.
  • Effective communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, with a commitment to patient safety, equity, and respectful care.
  • Prior experience in an acute care or teaching hospital setting is beneficial.
