Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Respond to emergency situations, providing emergency nursing care to students and staff presenting with acute/urgent illness, injury, or health issues.

Administer medication to students in compliance with the Churchill County School District Medication Policy and the Nevada Nurse Practice Act.

Provide student health assessments to identify pupils whose health may interfere with learning. Screen for vision, hearing, scoliosis, and general physical health in accordance with Nevada Revised Statutes.

Follow District policies and procedures regarding school health and the control of communicable disease. Authorize exclusion and re‑admission of students per Nevada State Health Department and CDC recommendations.

Maintain confidential health records, including student medical records, emergency cards, and immunization records;

perform computer data entry of all student health information. Alert staff to students with health concerns and ensure immunizations are current per NRS 392.435–392.446.

Inventory, requisition, and maintain sufficient stock of health office supplies.

Maintain a clean and orderly health office. Serve on school site or district committees (safety, student assistance, handbook/duty, intervention team, Medical Emergency Response Team).

Assist the Chief School Nurse in compiling data for care plans for pupils with health needs, incorporating physician plans approved by parents/guardians. Assist teachers in adapting the school program to meet individual student needs.

Participate in the evaluation process for students referred for special education services. Interpret medical and nursing information related to a student’s IEP and participate in MDT and IEP meetings when appropriate.

Refer parents/guardians to community resources and serve as liaison between the school, community health agencies, and the medical profession.

Notify parents or designated adults regarding student health problems, illnesses, or injuries. Provide health education and counseling to staff, students, and families.

Delegate, train, supervise, and evaluate other personnel licensed by the Board of Nursing who may provide medication and other health care services to students.

Provide health resources to teachers and may assist with health education in the classroom.

Comply with school site procedures, District policies, and regulations;

be willing to assume other tasks as assigned by the site administrator or Director of Special Services or Chief School Nurse.

Uphold professional standards of nursing.

Administer legally prescribed, labeled, and dispensed medications with written medical and parental permission following a safe and reliable medication procedure.

Training & Experience All training and experience required for the receipt and maintenance of a valid Nevada license to practice as a Registered Nurse.

Required License or Certificate

Valid license from the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse (RN).

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certificate from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or equivalent. Certification training must be in-person and include a hands‑on component (online courses not accepted).

Valid Nevada driver’s license.
