Project: New-Build Data Centre Construction
Role Purpose
Responsible for the safe planning, coordination and supervision of lifting operations on new-build data centre projects, ensuring compliance with UK legislation, industry standards and project-specific procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review lifting plans, risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) in accordance with LOLER, PUWER and relevant industry guidance.
- Select suitable cranes, lifting accessories and equipment, assessing load weights, lifting radii, ground conditions and crane positioning.
- Plan complex lifts involving structural steelwork, generators, transformers, chillers, switchgear and other major MEP equipment.
- Supervise lifting operations, conduct pre-lift briefings and ensure personnel understand their roles and responsibilities.
- Verify equipment certification, personnel competence, exclusion zones and safe working arrangements.
- Coordinate lifting activities with construction, logistics, temporary works and specialist subcontractors.
- Monitor operations and stop work where unsafe conditions arise or the approved lifting plan cannot be followed.
- Maintain lifting documentation and communicate risks, progress and programme constraints to project management.
Qualifications and Experience
- Recognised Appointed Person lifting qualification and Crane Supervisor qualification, such as appropriate CPCS certifications or equivalent.
- Proven experience in lifting management and crane supervision on major construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of LOLER, PUWER, BS 7121 and safe lifting practices.
- Experience with heavy plant installation and complex lifting operations.
- Strong leadership, communication and risk management skills.
