PAVER Examination (OPEN) Application open date: 07/13/2026 Application close date: 07/27/2026 Salary: $33.39 - $53.45 per hour.
Responsibilities
Prepare beds and lay various types of brick and stone block pavements under supervision.
Prepare sub‑base, grade and level sand for paving bases.
Lay brick, stone, and other types of block pavement material.
Sort out defective bricks.
Supervise pounders and laborers.
Supervise tamping of sub‑base and paving.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required.
Four years of full‑time, paid commercial concrete work (roadways or building) required.
Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License required.
Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 70 pounds.
Examination Details The examination comprises a performance component (70% of the total score) and an experience evaluation. Applicants will be notified of the time, date, and place of the examination.

Additional Information
Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) Preference Credit:
Graduates of CMSD who participate in an open competitive entrance‑level examination receive an additional five points upon achieving a passing score. Proof of graduation must be provided at the time of application.
Veterans’ Preference:
Eligible veterans receive credit in accordance with Civil Service Rules 4.40E, 4.40F, and 4.40G. Proof of active service or a DD Form 214 (long form) must be presented when filing the application. Veterans with an honorable discharge receive five points, and those with more than 15% service‑connected disability receive ten points.
