Your new role – Senior Backend Engineer (Voice)

Job location: On-site in Düsseldorf or remote in Germany

You will be welcomed into our Engineering department, which is divided into cross-functional, verticalized development teams focused on delivering continuous improvements, features, and developing new products. To support the delivery process and stability of our products, we also have our Product Support, QA, and SRE teams, who, alongside our Product and People teams, Director/Architect, and VP Engineering, are constantly looking to overcome new challenges, innovate, and ensure the success of our products and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities include:

• Deliver Impactful Software Solutions: Develop and deploy high-quality software that meets customer needs with speed and efficiency.
• Drive Excellence in Architecture & Code: Design best-in-class software, architecture, and code solutions while continuously seeking ways to enhance design and implementation.
• Maintain a Secure & Reliable Codebase: Ensure robust testing, security, and stability across all developments.
• Optimize Performance: Profile and benchmark the codebase to identify and eliminate bottlenecks, ensuring optimal performance.
• Ensure Operational Excellence: Implement monitoring, logging, and end-to-end testing to maintain high reliability and system health.
• Mentor & Guide: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers, fostering a culture of growth and collaboration.
• Embrace \“You-Build-It-You-Run-It\“: Take full ownership of your work, ensuring smooth operation and continuous improvements in both the team and the wider organization.
• Proactively Improve & Automate: Continuously refine processes, generate new ideas, and implement automation to simplify workflows and boost efficiency.

About you:

• Experienced Backend Developer: You bring 5+ years of hands-on experience in backend software development, with a focus on building scalable, high-performance systems.
• Linux Native: Comfortable navigating and working in Linux-based environments; the terminal is your natural habitat.
• Real-Time Communication Know-How: You’ve built applications using WebRTC or SIP and understand real-time communication protocols. Experience with FreeSWITCH is a plus.
• Low-Level Programming Skills: Confident writing in low-level languages like C++, especially for performance and resource optimization.
• Modern Stack Proficiency: Experience with Node.js and TypeScript; follows clean code principles and values maintainability.
• Network Analysis Skills: Ability to monitor and analyze network traffic, troubleshoot complex issues, especially for SIP-based communication.
• Database Versatility: Familiar with relational and NoSQL databases like PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis.
• Cloud Savvy: Exposure to cloud platforms, ideally Microsoft Azure or AWS, with an understanding of building and scaling cloud-native apps.
• Curious & Evolving: Always learning, open to new languages and frameworks, driven to improve your craft.
• Collaborative & Communicative: Communicates clearly and works well across teams, whether mentoring or proposing solutions.
