The Role:
In this role, you will develop deep application expertise across strategic industrial applications for ultrashort pulse (USP) lasers, helping us understand how our technology can create real value for customers.
You will combine technical application development with direct customer interaction, product development and commercial support. Using your understanding of laser processes, customer requirements and market needs, you will help shape our value proposition, influence future product development and support selected sales opportunities.
Approximately 30% of the position will involve executing customer applications as part of sales projects.
What you will be doing
- Develop strategic key applications for industrial ultrashort pulse lasers and build a deep understanding of their technical requirements, alternative processes and economic considerations.
- Define fundamental process principles and operating boundaries and translate application requirements into the necessary laser parameters.
- Contribute to the development of compelling customer value propositions as part of the Market Solution Team, working closely with Application, Integration and Product Management.
- Collaborate with international customers to understand technical requirements, answer process-related questions and demonstrate application capabilities.
- Document application results clearly and in a customer-oriented format.
- Identify and evaluate potential future key applications for ultrashort pulse laser technology.
- Translate application and customer insights into product requirements for new product development and improvements to existing products.
- Create technical white papers and represent Coherent at relevant trade fairs, conferences and industry events.
- Collaborate closely with local application laboratories, sharing technical knowledge and supporting teams with customer and sales projects.
- Execute customer application projects in support of selected sales opportunities, representing approximately 30% of the role.
About You:
You are a technically curious and customer-focused professional who enjoys understanding complex laser applications and translating technical knowledge into practical solutions.
You are comfortable working at the intersection of application development, customers, product management and sales, and enjoy collaborating internationally to develop new technologies and applications.
You will ideally bring:
- Strong technical knowledge of laser technology, ideally including ultrashort pulse lasers and industrial laser processing.
- Experience developing, testing or optimising laser applications and manufacturing processes.
- The ability to understand complex customer requirements and translate them into technical process and laser parameters.
- Strong analytical and experimental problem-solving skills.
- Experience working directly with customers on technical requirements, application development or process-related challenges.
- The ability to communicate complex technical information clearly through customer documentation, presentations and technical publications.
- A collaborative approach with the ability to work effectively across Application Engineering, Integration, Product Management, Sales and international teams.
- Willingness to represent Coherent at customer meetings, trade fairs, conferences and other industry events.
