Responsibilities
- Providing effective classroom or laboratory instruction using methods and materials appropriate to the subject matter.
- Preparing and grading all class assignments and examinations.
- Advising, assisting and evaluating students, evaluating learning outcomes and maintaining regular office hours.
- Participating in program activities including curriculum and program planning, development, evaluation, and decision making as well as the development of new teaching-learning methods and materials.
- Contributing to development of program policies and procedures.
- Participation in departmental and college professional activities and/or committees is welcomed, but not required.
- Maintaining accurate and timely student records as required.

Job Requirements
Requirements for General Biology Courses
A Master's degree in any biological science; OR A Bachelor's degree in any biological science AND a Master's degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, or Marine Science; OR The equivalent; AND Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the campus community.
Requirements for Teaching Human Anatomy
- Coursework: the instructor must have taken and passed Human Anatomy lecture (3 units) and Human Anatomy lab (course must have used cadavers; 1 to 2 units) (not including an online course).
- Coursework: the instructor must have completed at least two (2) additional upper division classes that are human oriented (e.g., Human Physiology, Muscle Mechanics, Exercise Physiology, Comparative Anatomy, Vertebrae Physiology or Anatomy, Human Development, Embryology, Neurology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Genetics, Nutrition) or equivalent work experience.
- The instructor must have prior, active cadaver and dissection experience.
- Must be familiar with proper and safe use of a scalpel.
Requirements for Teaching Human Physiology
- Coursework: the instructor must have taken and passed Human Physiology lecture (3 units) AND Human Physiology lab (not including an online course).
- Coursework: the instructor must have completed at least two (2) additional upper division classes that are human oriented (e.g., Human Anatomy, Muscle Mechanics, Exercise Physiology, Comparative Anatomy, Vertebrate Physiology or Anatomy, Human Development, Embryology, Neurology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Genetics, Nutrition).
- Demonstrated knowledge of how to use various physiology equipment and physiological tests such as: Powerlab/Biopac data acquisition equipment, sphygmomanometers, stethoscopes, centrifuges, microcentrifuges, and tuning forks.
- Demonstrated knowledge of proper and safe handling, disposal, and precautions needed for human body fluids such as blood, urine, saliva etc.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (Desirable Attributes & Skills)
- Qualifications to teach microbiology, cadaver-based human anatomy/human physiology, botany, and/or zoology.
- Competencies related to: curriculum & course development; teaching & learning theory; information resources & evaluating student outcomes; and, assisting students to develop critical thinking skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing with a diverse campus community.
- Currency and depth of knowledge in assigned area of responsibility and subject matter.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively and professionally with colleagues and members of the campus community.
- Commitment to the teaching profession, its goals and ideals, and enthusiasm for the mission of the College of Marin.
- Understanding of contemporary equity and diversity concepts and issues in a community college setting.
- Experience in developing equity focused practices and educational programming/curriculum with and for diverse student populations.
- Familiarity with, willingness and ability to use multiple teaching methods including computer based learning.
- Ability and enthusiasm to use teaching methods that engage students and encourage them to be motivated self learners.
- Knowledge, training and experience with online pedagogy and technology.
- Evidence of excellent written and oral skills in English.
