Cost Manager in Berlin

COLT DCS is looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor / Cost Manager who is motivated to help scale a mission-driven company experiencing rapid growth in delivery of Hyperscale Data Centres.

This role sits within our Commercial Function charged with predicting, tracking, and managing cost and schedules on our Hyperscale Data Centre delivery programme across EMEA and APAC.

Your focus will be on all our projects in Germany, and you will work to gather and analyse data to keep data centre development costs and schedules on track. This will include initiating, planning, monitoring, and controlling, communicating, and closing out these associated costs and schedules.

Ultimately, your work will serve to forecast outcomes based on those measurements and then improve performance leading to quicker and increased rates of return.

Role Responsibilities

• Lead ad-hoc cost studies that enable rapid decision-making. Support sales and development efforts at various stages, facilitate development of cost estimates and budgets, and establish reasonable cost baselines.
• Manage risk management protocol which includes identification, documentation, mitigation and tracking of potential risks on the project. In addition, determine potential cost impacts of potential risks as they are identified.
• Identify and communicate design changes, scope changes and potential impacts and participate in the identification of mitigations. Ensure trends of costs are identified, manage change management process and communicate and suggest corrective actions.
• Feed information into reporting dashboards to communicate cost performance to teams in real time. Maintain a standardized suite of cost reports that enable senior management to make data driven decisions.
• Mange the external cost consultants who are responsible for agreeing cost and budgets, reviewing commercial tender returns, making recommendations for placement of orders, valuing works complete, assessing contractor payment entitlement, undertaking monthly cashflows and cost value reconciliations.
• Attend cost meetings, manage, and consult with a wide range of construction professionals, and ensure timely completion of agreed actions.

Desired Skills and Experience

• Proficient and key experience of successfully delivering construction Projects.
• Good knowledge of International best practice for health and safety.
• Expert in Cost Management/Project Controls.
• Technical knowledge of construction, mechanical and electrical services.
• An understanding of the technical, procedural, contractual, and commercial aspects of project delivery.
• Ability to provide high quality and accurate reports.
• Experience and understanding of procuring supply and construction contracts.
• Experience of working with local and remotely based collaborative, multi-disciplinary teams.
• Ability to travel to our construction sites when required.
• Methodical and highly organised
• German and English speaking – Native or fluent
• Academic qualifications in a relevant construction or engineering discipline.
• Have significant Cost Management/Project Controls experience.
• Professional qualification e.g. Construction related, chartered engineer or similar.
