We are looking for a knowledgeable and hands-on Facility Engineer to support the technical operations of a data centre in Stuttgart.

This is a senior technical role providing engineering expertise, technical leadership to site technicians, and ensuring the facility operates to the highest standards of availability, safety and efficiency.

The ideal candidate will combine strong engineering knowledge with practical operational experience in a critical environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and manage critical data centre infrastructure on site.
  • Operate and monitor medium- and low-voltage electrical systems.
  • Maintain and monitor transformers, UPS systems and emergency generators.
  • Perform load testing and switching operations.
  • Monitor and operate cooling and climate-control systems, including CRAC/CRAH equipment.
  • Monitor temperature and humidity and support energy-efficiency optimisation.
  • Operate and monitor Building Management Systems (BMS), sensors, alarms and automation systems.
  • Monitor technical building systems and equipment.

Network Infrastructure

  • Install and maintain fibre-optic and Cat6/7 cabling.
  • Carry out measurements, testing and connectivity troubleshooting.
  • Maintain clean, structured cable management.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and labelling.

Maintenance & Incident Management

  • Plan and carry out preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Investigate technical incidents and failures and conduct root-cause analysis.
  • Develop Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs).
  • Maintain comprehensive records of maintenance activities, faults and incidents.

Safety & Risk Management

  • Conduct emergency drills.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety and operational procedures.
  • Support audits and certification activities.

Change Management

  • Assess proposed technical changes and associated risks.
  • Prepare Methods of Procedure (MOPs), Permits to Work (PtWs) and risk assessments.
  • Carry out planned switching operations.
  • Ensure appropriate risk controls are in place before technical interventions.
  • Perform and support customer installations and cross-connects.
  • Provide Remote Hands support and technical troubleshooting.
  • Obtain and review supplier quotations.
  • Monitor work against agreed budgets.
  • Brief and supervise contractors on site.
  • Review completion and service reports.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation.

The role also involves participation in an on-call rotation for urgent technical interventions and close collaboration with the wider Operations team.

About You

You will ideally have:

  • A completed technical apprenticeship, such as electrician, mechatronics technician, refrigeration/HVAC technician, or a comparable technical qualification.
  • Further qualification as a certified technician or master craftsman is desirable.
  • The willingness and appropriate qualifications to be appointed as a qualified electrical specialist.
  • Several years of experience in data centre operations or a comparable critical technical environment.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, as well as IT connectivity.
  • A solution-oriented approach and the ability to troubleshoot effectively under pressure.
  • Basic knowledge of networks, structured cabling and connectivity troubleshooting.
  • A structured, organised approach with strong documentation skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Fluency in either German or English; proficiency in both languages would be advantageous.
