Working Student – Japanese Translator / Localization Support (m/f/d) - 15h-20h / week in Ratingen

Remote | Approx. 15 - 20 hours per week

CS-International is looking for a reliable and detail-oriented Working Student – Japanese Translator / Localization Support (m/f/d) to support an international TCG project.

The role involves regular communication between English- and Japanese-speaking stakeholders and requires more than straightforward translation. You will support discussions around game mechanics, card effects, terminology and project reporting, while working with highly confidential and unreleased content. What to expect:

• Translate written communication between our team and our Japanese client, both English to Japanese and Japanese to English
• Provide live interpretation during weekly online meetings, supporting back-and-forth discussions between English- and Japanese-speaking participants
• Translate a weekly project report of approximately 10 pages
• Support the translation and localization of trading card game terminology, including:
  • Card effects
  • Keywords
  • Game mechanics
  • Rules-related terminology
• Compare Japanese and English card texts and identify...
  • ...translation inaccuracies
  • ...inconsistencies
  • ...missing or potentially misleading information
• Maintain consistency of terminology across documents and communication
• Support occasional additional translation tasks related to the project

Qualifications

Japanese language proficiency at JLPT N1 level or equivalent is preferred. Native Japanese speakers are equally welcome to apply. Applicants without a formal language certificate may demonstrate their proficiency through our translation assessment.

Professional working proficiency in English (C1 level or equivalent), both written and spoken.

Your Profile

• Native or near-native Japanese language skills
• Very good command of English, both written and spoken
• Confidence translating in both directions:Japanese ↔ English
• Comfortable interpreting live conversations during online meetings
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify subtle differences in meaning
• Able to work independently and reliably in a remote environment
• Interest in or familiarity with Trading Card Games, card games, gaming or Japanese entertainment culture is highly desirable
• Previous translation, localization or interpretation experience is an advantage, but not necessarily required
• Current university enrollment is preferred for a working student position

What to expect

This is not a general translation role. You will work directly on an international TCG project and become familiar with its terminology, mechanics and ongoing development.

A good understanding of context is therefore just as important as linguistic accuracy. We are looking for someone who can understand what is being discussed and translate the intended meaning naturally and precisely.

The position involves access to highly confidential and potentially unreleased project information.

Therefore:

• Signing a comprehensive Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) is mandatory
• Confidential information must only be handled through approved company systems
• A dedicated CS-International external email account will be provided as well as working laptop for access to sensitive documents and project communication
• Strict confidentiality is required at all times
