Development Engineer – Medical Laser Devices (m/f/d) – 6771 ASH
Our client is a medium‑sized medical technology company with approximately 700 employees and a global market leadership position in therapeutic, diagnostic and service solutions. For the next possible date we are looking for a permanent position for a Development Engineer – Medical Laser Devices.
Position Summary & Goal: Development, implementation, construction and testing of electrical and optical components and laser systems for medical products. The job holder closely collaborates with stakeholders across departments, particularly with engineers from systems engineering, quality engineering, software development as well as regulatory affairs and quality management. Focus is on delivering innovative solutions that meet customer requirements as well as regulatory requirements, particularly those related to safety and effectiveness. The deliverables contribute to increasing the competitiveness and commercial success of the company.
Main Responsibilities:
- Development and implementation of power and control electronic boards for complex medical laser devices.
- Creation of electrical circuit and wiring diagrams for complex medical laser devices.
- Development and implementation of electrical as well as laser power safety concepts to assure product functional safety.
- Implementation and execution of concepts for product cost reduction.
- Collection and determination of technical requirements and specifications.
- Create component and system specifications and other quality related documents (risk analysis, DFMEA, test and verification reports) in compliance with international requirements (CE, FDA, MHLW).
- Perform verification tests to verify electrical as well as laser components and product requirements.
- Maintain products and laser systems to ensure stable and reliable operations as part of the product lifecycle management process.
- Support of troubleshooting electrical- and laser-related issues.
- Performing of engineering tasks during setup and start-up of prototypes.
- Coordinate and work with third-party suppliers and contractors.
- Monitoring of technological trends in laser, photonics and electronics, including reviews of competitors\‘ technology.
- Adherence to national and international standards and regulations, project goals and costs, process definitions in the product design and related processes.
Qualification & Experience:
- Master’s degree in science and engineering with experience in R&D.
- Specialization in laser physics and electronic engineering or biomedical engineering with focus on optronics.
- Minimum 6 years of experience in development of laser and electrical devices; preferably medical laser devices.
- Advanced knowledge of electronics (power-, digital-, analog- and microprocessor technology).
- Advanced knowledge of optical laser systems (Solid‑State‑, Semiconductor‑ and fiber lasers).
- Experienced in design implementation and characterization of high‑performance laser systems.
- Experienced in design and development of power and digital electronic boards.
- Knowledge in EMI/EMC design rules and electrical safety as well as laser safety.
- Experienced in creation of electrical circuit diagrams.
- Programming skills in Python, C/C++, and LabVIEW.
- Experienced in creating technical reference documentation.
- Knowledge in requirements and systems engineering.
- Experienced in performing Design Transfer to production.
- Creativity and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work and contribute in a team environment.
- Motivated and creative, ability to “think outside the box.”
- Be able to function independently of direct supervision.
- Standards knowledge: ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR 820.30, IEC 14971, IEC 62366, IEC 60601‑1, IEC 60601‑1‑2 and collateral standards.
- Ms Office; Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Knowledge in ERP system; preferably Infor SyteLine.
- Knowledge in Altium, Eagle, OrCAD PSpice, Multiphysics simulation, MATLAB.
- Knowledge in requirement management tool such as DOORS, Polarion or CodeBeamer.
- Knowledge in building PCB prototypes and system cabling.
