We are looking for a Senior IT Infrastructure & Cloud Engineer to own and improve Cuculus’ IT infrastructure, Jira Cloud administration, Linux systems, operational security, and transition from VM-based hosting to Microsoft Azure.

This role combines hands-on infrastructure operations with architecture, automation, security, and cloud migration responsibilities. The successful candidate will help build a reliable, secure, and increasingly cloud-based IT environment.

Your Role at a Glance

Azure & cloud migration

  • Lead the migration of selected virtual machines and services to Microsoft Azure.
  • Design and maintain Azure infrastructure, including virtual networks, virtual machines, storage, identity, monitoring, backup, access controls, and cost management.
  • Establish infrastructure-as-code and automation using tools such as Terraform, Bicep, Ansible, PowerShell, Bash, or Python.

Linux & server operations

  • Maintain and support Linux servers, virtual machines, Docker environments, and internal services.
  • Plan and perform operating system upgrades, security updates, patching, hardening, and lifecycle management.
  • Monitor infrastructure health, capacity, availability, backups, performance, and security vulnerabilities.
  • Establish reliable backup, restore, disaster-recovery, and business-continuity procedures.

Jira Cloud & Microsoft 365

  • Administer and govern Jira Cloud, including projects, workflows, permissions, roles, automations, integrations, marketplace applications, and license usage.
  • Support Microsoft 365 and Entra ID administration, including identity, access, MFA, RBAC, and integrations.

Network & security

  • Maintain secure connectivity, DNS, certificates, VPNs, firewalls, reverse proxies, and internal network services.
  • Support security monitoring, logging, incident investigation, vulnerability remediation, and operational security controls.

Support & documentation

  • Provide advanced technical support and act as the escalation point for complex infrastructure and access issues.
  • Document systems, dependencies, maintenance procedures, architecture decisions, and recovery processes.
  • Coordinate with vendors and external service providers where required.

Must-haves (to thrive in this role)

Experience & education

  • Several years of experience in IT infrastructure, systems administration, cloud engineering, or IT operations.
  • A degree in computer science or a related field, or an equivalent qualification.

Azure & cloud migration

  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, especially Azure VMs, networking, storage, monitoring, backup, Entra ID, RBAC, and security controls.
  • Experience planning or executing cloud and infrastructure migrations.

Linux, infrastructure & security

  • Strong Linux administration experience, preferably with Ubuntu, Debian, or Red Hat-based systems.
  • Practical experience with virtualization, Docker, networking, DNS, TLS certificates, SSH, firewalls, and backup systems.
  • Strong understanding of patch management, least-privilege access, secrets management, vulnerability remediation, and secure system design.

Tools & automation

  • Experience administering Jira Cloud and integrating Jira with other systems through APIs, webhooks, or automation.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and Entra ID.
  • Experience with scripting and automation using Bash, PowerShell, Python, Terraform, Bicep, or Ansible.

How you work

  • Ability to troubleshoot independently and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • Strong documentation and change-management habits.

Location & language

  • You can work on site at one of our offices in Ilmenau, Erfurt or Leipzig, especially during your first months.
  • Our company language is English - good English skills are a must.

Nice-to-haves (great if you have them, but not a dealbreaker)

Tools & platforms

  • Keycloak, LDAP, or other identity platforms.
  • MDM or endpoint-management systems.
  • GitLab, CI/CD, container orchestration, or internal developer platforms.
  • SIEM, log collection, monitoring, and alerting systems.
  • Jira Service Management or Confluence administration.

Frameworks & certifications

  • ITIL, ISO 27001, GDPR, or other security/compliance frameworks.
  • Azure certifications or Atlassian certifications.
