Cytel is seeking a Vice President of Business Development to lead their global, fast-paced, high-growth, and dynamic commercial sales team in North America. The ideal candidate will be highly experienced in leading sales teams, scaling operations, driving high-quality client-oriented presentations and proposals, as well as collaborating with commercial operations, marketing, legal, and business leadership to manage complex, multi-stakeholder engagements.
The opportunity requires a proven systems thinker and a champion of predictable revenue, someone who brings a data-driven approach to the sales process and is hungry to bring another level of strategic and tactical execution to a business that’s already on a fast-paced growth trajectory. This leader will inherit a highly motivated sales organization, which he/she will be responsible for continuing to develop as well as expanding the team and capabilities around them.
responsibilities
- Leading a team of regional business development professionals across North America; selling clinical development planning and clinical trial design as well as study-level analytics operations (including but not limited to: statistics, programming, clinical data management, DMCs, and real-world evidence solutions) across all of the business units of Cytel.
- Plan and execute Cytel’s Clinical CRO partnership model allowing Cytel to expand the pipeline of opportunities for biometrics and analytical services. Serve as an executive sponsor for key CRO partners
- Continue the expansion of the department, coordinating resource and staffing requirements to meet the needs of the rapidly growing commercial team.
- Actively manage the business development team members to prepare and execute territory plans.
- Oversee the hiring and development of business development team members.
- Support team members as they determine customer needs, match Cytel’s capabilities to those needs, and position Cytel as the choice amongst competitors, including both full-service CROs and niche specialty providers.
- Create, build and manage excellent client and internal Cytel relationships.
- Drive the development of territory sales strategies for each of Cytel’s core businesses.
- Put in place systems; update and maintain responsibility for customer relationship management, forecasting, and quoting.
- Develop pricing policies, including volume discounts and terms and conditions, for customers and partners.
- Manage overall sales process, set appropriate metrics for sales funnel management.
- Spearhead business development initiatives consistent with the company’s overall strategy.

YOUR IMPACT
In this position, you will be responsible for ensuring that Cytel’s vision and differentiated offering are brought to life by the business development team consistently with high-quality bespoke client-facing materials, ultimately driving the expansion of the organization’s client base. You will be the driving force in developing the work ethic, culture, and values of the business development group. Through personal example, the successful candidate will establish the style and approach that characterizes Cytel’s dealings with the marketplace.
qualifications
- 5+ years of high-level business development leadership experience with proven experience building, managing, motivating, and retaining high-performing business development teams.
- A track record of developing corporate or regional sales plans including territory planning, sales projections, hiring, training, and development business development professionals.
- Experience developing and implementing commission plans.
- Ability to assess, plan, and actively manage global budgets to achieve maximum productivity of a diverse team of inside and outside business development professionals.
- Exceptional collaboration skills with different internal teams. Ability to communicate, present, and influence all levels of the organization, including executive leadership.
- Experience with development and managing sales channel partnerships.
- Proven experience managing complex contract negotiations.
- The ability to lead new customer engagements with limited support.
Education / Certifications
- Undergraduate degree required; advanced degree(s) preferred.
