Research Assistant Position in Ecology
The Department of Ecology at the School of Biology/Chemistry, Osnabrück University, is inviting applications for a Research Assistant (m/f/d) position. This is a part-time role (65%) with a salary grade of 13 TV-L, limited to three years. The successful candidate will join an exciting DFG-funded project focused on eco-evolutionary causes and genomic consequences of synergistic coevolution and will have the opportunity to work towards a PhD.

Minimum Requirements
- Completed degree (M.Sc. or comparable) in biology or a related field
- Solid practical experience in microbiological techniques and molecular biological methods
- Excellent command of written and spoken English

- Sound knowledge of ecological and evolutionary concepts and theory
- An excellent university degree
- Creative working style and strong motivation
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team
- Structured and independent working method
- Experience in high-resolution fluorescence microscopy
- Knowledge of quantitative working methods and statistical analysis
- Working knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Python)
- Ability to develop and analyze theoretical models (population dynamics, individual-based models) is a plus
Job Description
- Participate in the DFG-funded project on eco-evolutionary causes and genomic consequences of synergistic coevolution
- Perform coculture and coevolution experiments with bacterial strains
- Reconstruct mutations in various genetic backgrounds
- Conduct growth experiments to analyze fitness consequences of mutations
- Analyze spatio-temporal bacterial aggregates with microfluidics and fluorescence microscopy
- Perform flow cytometric analyses
- Collaborate closely with partners Dr. Alexander Herbig (Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology) and Dr. Alexander Grünberger (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology)
