Roee Be’er “Aikido’s Journey Towards Harmony and Freedom” at Tanzwerkstatt Europa 2024 .
When: 5. – 9. August 12.15 – 14.15 H
In this workshop, we will focus on our ability to get in touch with our physical center and develop freedom of movement in the ever changing environment we live in. Aikido is a Japanese martial art that fosters a sense of freedom in conflict situations. Based on traditional martial arts, including the practice of the sword and rod, Aikido also emphasizes harmony and creativity. The practice focuses on the relationship between receptivity and activity and the balance between effortlessly generating and receiving the forces that affect our bodies, known as „ukemi“ in Japanese.
This workshop helps beginners to develop their freedom of movement and awareness of their own center. For more advanced professional students, it offers the opportunity to expand their movement repertoire in contact with others, with a focus on receptivity and connection. In particular, self-confidence and a positive body image will be strengthened.
Roee Be’er lives in Munich and is a teacher of Aikido (3rd Dan) and the Feldenkrais Method. He completed his Master’s degree in Sports Science at the Technical University of Munich, where he researched balance control and motor learning. He trained Aikido with Miles Kessler, Patrick Cassidy and Thor Schoo; the Feldenkrais Method with Basil Glazer and Rachel Elazar. In his work, Roee highlights structure and freedom, playfulness and lightness in movement and seeks for ways to develop new sensorimotor skills through interactions with the environment. He worked with the Israeli dance company Vertigo and with dancers from the Batsheva Dance Company and was a guest teacher at the Los Angeles Contemporary Dance Company and Tanzfabrik Berlin.
