The Faculty of Medicine invites applications for a

Professorship (W2) (6 years/tenure track) of
Orthopaedic Oncolocy and Musculoskeletal Sarcoma Surgery

commencing as soon as possible.

The responsibilities of this professorship include – in addition to representing the field in research and teaching – leading the Musculoskeletal Oncology Unit within the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology at the Klinikum of LMU Munich (following the retirement of the previous head), and the outpatient and inpatient care of patients with tumors or tumor-like lesions, particularly sarcomas of the musculoskeletal system. A solid experience in diagnostics and surgical treatment of musculoskeletal tumors is required.

The head of the Musculoskeletal Oncology Unit represents the specialty within the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology and within the interdisciplinary center for bone and soft tissue tumors at the CCC MunichLMU (SarKUM). Experience in the certification of sarcoma centers according to the criteria of the German Cancer Society is highly desirable.

LMU Munich seeks to appoint a highly qualified junior academic to this professorship and, therefore, especially encourages early-career scholars to apply. Prerequisites for this position are a university degree and a doctoral degree or a comparable specific qualification. With an excellent record in research and teaching to date, prospective candidates will have demonstrated the potential for an outstanding academic career.

Candidates must also be recognized as a specialist in orthopedics and trauma surgery.

The initial appointment will be for six years. After a minimum of three years, it can be converted into a permanent position pending a positive evaluation of the candidate’s performance in research and teaching as well as his or her personal aptitude and if all legal conditions are met.
