Our client is a subsidiary of a Top-10 global container shipping line with a Fleet Management Division in Hamburg.

Responsibilities:

  1. Represent the ship-owner onboard vessels and in ports, making appropriate decisions to optimize vessel management.
  2. Ensure operational monitoring of container ships in your area.
  3. Initiate investigations, determine necessary purchases and repairs to meet technical norms, expiry dates, and company standards for each vessel.
  4. Supervise and coordinate crew members and external parties (repair yards, shipping experts, classification societies) during technical interventions.
  5. Analyze root causes of defects raised by third parties and incorporate feedback into the owned fleet.
  6. Act as the key contact for chief engineers, captains, lines, and shipyards.
  7. Draft and monitor operational budgets for each vessel.
  8. Serve as the appointed ship expert and onsite representative if required.
  9. Update shipping documents and official certificates necessary for the vessels, monitor consumption (oil, fuel, etc.), and participate in their optimization.
  10. Ensure the vessels\‘ seaworthiness and business performance, including certificates, international obligations, speed, capacity, and lifting gear.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Chief/second engineer license or a degree in naval engineering.
  2. At least 5 years of experience as a seafarer or in a similar position, with at least 1 year ashore.
  3. Fluent in spoken and written English; proficient with office and IT tools.
  4. Good knowledge of international shipping regulations; technical expertise in hull, engines, etc., is a plus.
  5. Rigour, responsiveness, analytical and synthesis skills, and interpersonal abilities.
  6. Willingness to travel frequently (about 45 days/year).
  7. Valid work permit for Germany/EU.
