Job Description
We seek a Director of Engineering, Logistics Optimization to join our Logistics Rider – Optimization Tribe to help us create a fast, efficient, and reliable delivery experience. You will be leading a tribe of highly talented people passionate about building products that optimize the way our riders deliver orders to millions of customers every day in a way that enables a thriving ecosystem for all of its participants. In our Logistics Team, you’ll tackle high-impact challenges that make last-mile delivery efficient, affordable, and sustainable. Your work will directly improve experiences for riders, end customers, and vendors across the globe. Each enhancement you contribute will help Delivery Hero optimize delivery operations, supporting expansion into new areas like grocery and retail.

• Lead and Scale High-Performing Teams: Directly manage 3-6 engineering managers, staff+ level individual contributors, and oversee an organization of 30+ engineers, fostering a high-performance culture, clarity of expectations, and alignment with organizational goals.
• Define and Execute Strategic Vision: Develop and implement technical and team strategies that align with business objectives, ensuring your tribe delivers impactful and scalable solutions.
• Drive Business Impact Through Collaboration: Build and maintain strong partnerships with Product and Operations leaders to align on priorities, OKRs, and roadmaps, ensuring your tribe’s work directly contributes to business success.
• Promote a Culture of Transparency and Growth: Foster open communication, accountability, and continuous improvement by providing 360-degree feedback and sharing achievements and failures across the engineering community.

Qualifications

• Strong Computer Science Fundamentals: Deep understanding of data structures, algorithms, and computational complexity, particularly in areas like the Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP), Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP)
• Experience with Time-Critical Systems: Proven track record of managing highly reliable, scalable 24/7 systems such as financial trading platforms, ride-hailing services, e-commerce checkouts, bidding systems, or last-mile logistics.
• Technical Strategy and Roadmapping: Ability to define and execute long-term technical strategies, including tackling tech debt, scalability bottlenecks, and performance optimization.
• Incident Management and Operational Excellence: Expertise in handling critical incidents, post-mortem analysis, and implementing preventive measures to ensure system reliability.
• Budget and Resource Governance: Experience managing budgets, optimizing cloud costs, and ensuring efficient resource allocation across teams and projects.
• Soft Skills: Strategic Decision-Making, Stakeholder Management, Business Acumen, Strong Communication skills and Coaching & Mentorship
