Our client, a rapidly expanding designer and manufacturer of advanced analytical instruments for the life science and analysis industries, is looking for a visionary Group Director of R&D to drive the next stage of their global growth journey.

With a strong track record of delivering cutting-edge solutions in laboratory automation and analytical systems, the business is scaling its international infrastructure — and this role sits right at the heart of it.

What You’ll Be Doing

As the Group R&D Director, you will:

• Lead and develop a high-performing global R&D organisation (c. 80 people), across multiple technical disciplines
• Oversee complex system engineering projects involving mechanical, electrical, and software integration
• Drive innovation strategy, translating market needs and scientific opportunities into next-generation product platforms
• Partner closely with Product Management, Operations, and Commercial leaders to align development efforts with business growth
• Act as a key member of the group leadership team, reporting directly to the CEO

What We’re Looking For

• Proven leadership of international R&D teams, ideally across matrixed organisations or multiple sites
• Strong foundation in systems engineering — spanning mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines
• A track record of delivering innovation in lab automation, life science tools, or complex instrumentation
• Strategic thinking with hands-on technical depth
• Willingness to travel globally (approx. 40%)
