Director of Finance (m/f/d)

The Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing and managing the accounting and finance operations of the Design Hotels corporate office in Berlin and its foreign subsidiaries in the US, UK, and Singapore. This role ensures compliance with local accounting and financial reporting requirements, tax regulations, and internal SOPs of Design Hotels, and participates in internal, external, and regulatory audits. The Director drives key finance initiatives to align execution and business results with Design Hotels’ strategy, establishing strong internal controls to minimize risk and protect company assets. This individual supervises the local finance team and reports to the Senior Director, Finance Business Partner Design Hotels.

Tasks & Responsibilities

Finance and Accounting

• Oversees Day to Day Finance and Accounting operations for the Design Hotels offices in Germany, UK, Singapore and the US
• Processes month-end and year-end closings in conjunction with the corporate schedule
• Responsible for VAT submission and timely payments
• Responsible for development of the monthly forecast, the annual operating budget, and capex planning.
• Assists with liquidity and investment planning activities
• Serves as point of contact for financial and tax auditors

Controlling

• Prepares the monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, including cash flow analysis
• Prepares the management reporting including key performance indicators (KPIs) for the balanced scorecard
• Oversees and maintains the financial system applications
• Reviews and enhances accounting and controlling for all operational processes within the company
• Maintains strong internal controls and procedures
• Ensures administrative office’s policies and processes are in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
• Ensures monthly full reconciliation of Design Hotels Entities Balance Sheet accounts

Leadership

• Responsible for the technical and disciplinary management of the Finance & Accounting team of Design Hotels
• Sets goals and expectations for direct reports using the Leadership Performance Process (LPA) and holds staff accountable for successful performance

Experience & Mindset

• Minimum of 8 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a senior role including team leading function
• Bachelor’s degree or higher education in accounting, finance, or a related field, preferred CPA or equivalent certification
• Thorough knowledge of the principles, procedures, and techniques of accounting, and of financial records and transactions including, but not limited to, generally accepted accounting principles (German GAAP accounting)
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Navision, PeopleSoft) and Microsoft Excel
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Proficient in German and English reading and writing
• A great experience in the niche market of luxury boutique hotels
