Become a part of our international dteq team in EMEA. For the next possible date we are looking for you in fulltime as Port Captain.

Your duties and responsibilities include:

  • Supervision of the loading and unloading of cargo in the port, including comprehensive documentation
  • Technical coordination and management at the port of all related activities as a single point of contact, such as for the vessel crew, the captain, stevedores and other stakeholders (client, etc.)
  • Troubleshooting/management of operations, including liaising with local authorities and the client
  • Cultivating and supporting relations with third parties such as hauliers, stevedores, and especially the vessel crew and captain
  • Understanding “STOP WORK authority” and usage where appropriate for operational or safety reasons
  • Reviewing, evaluating and commenting on method statements, as well as executing plans
  • Performing risk assessments at the port and of operation
  • Calculation of Lifting and Lashing arrangements, including calculations of accelerations as per IMO and DNV Standards
  • Holding pre-operation meetings and toolbox talks
  • Development of AutoCAD drawings for lifting and lashing
  • Producing transportation solutions, concepts and feasibility studies for heavy lift and overdimensional cargo
  • Performing reviews of feasibility and the safety aspects of operations
  • Performing port surveys with a focus on infrastructure and port capabilities

What you can contribute:

  • A naval, maritime or heavy lift/project cargo degree or similar
  • At least 3 years of experience as a port captain, supercargo or in a similar role within the transportation industry, with a focus on project cargo or heavy haul, overdimensional cargo, super loads or abnormal load operations (100+ MT)
  • Proven knowledge of loading, lashing and vessel operations
  • An understanding of the needs and issues within the transport industry
  • Good command of written and spoken English, other languages are desired
  • A client-facing attitude with good communication skills
  • You have a team-player mindset with an independent “can-do” work attitude
  • Ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines
  • Solution-driven way of working and ability to think outside the box
  • Excellent knowledge of QHSES rules and regulations in ports and on-board vessels
  • Good knowledge of standard industry software (AutoCAD, etc.) is desired
  • Ability to travel (also on short notice, min. 30%)
