The Weiss Lab ( is looking for a PhD student with a background in bioinformatics and/or immunology, who is interested in studying the fundamental mechanisms that govern inflammation. The position is for an initial period of 3.5 years with the possibility of an extension, and a start date of 01 June 2025.
The Weiss Lab is located within the Systems Rheumatology Department at the German Rheumatology Research Centre (DRFZ), A Leibniz Institute. Our lab studies the fundamental mechanisms that regulate the inflammatory response. The advertised position will focus on how genetic variation can influence inflammatory gene regulation, using animal models as well as patient-derived iPSCs and primary cells. This is a hybrid wet/dry lab project, and those with computational expertise and an interest in developing wet lab skills are particularly encouraged to apply.
The DRFZ is located in the heart of Berlin, with a vibrant scientific community, a wide range of research groups, and access to state-of-the-art technologies. The PhD position will be integrated into the doctoral environment at the DRFZ, with its own graduate program and access to partner programs, bringing together like-minded PhD students from across Berlin, and offering a variety of graduate training programs and events.
Requirements:
- M.D and/or MSc in immunology, cell biology, bioinformatics, biology or similar.
- Experience in bioinformatics analysis (e.g., bulk and single cell RNAseq, whole exome sequencing, ATACseq, etc.) and/or cell culture and molecular biology (e.g., FACS, ELISA, cloning, etc.).
- Organizational skills, willingness to learn, and enthusiasm for science.
- Fluent in English.
