Network Engineer (f/m/x)

The DZNE operates a central IT located in Bonn, which provides the central network, server and storage infrastructure, and services for the entire research institute distributed across 10 locations in Germany, supporting the work of scientists and administration. In the IT department, we are looking to strengthen the Network and Security team by recruiting a talented professional in network and cyber security.

Your role in detail

1. Maintain, monitor, and manage DZNE’s network and communication infrastructure, ensuring high availability and performance
2. Install, configure, and maintain network hardware and software (routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, load balancers)
3. Plan, coordinate, and implement complex network changes and upgrades
4. Troubleshoot and resolve network connectivity, performance, and security issues
5. Configure, manage, and optimize firewall rules, IDS/IPS, and NAC to enhance network security
6. Provide network architecture and design expertise for specific projects
7. Define and enforce network security baselines and configuration templates
8. Monitor network infrastructure, analyze faults, and identify potential threats, ensuring proactive protection and service improvement
9. Work hands-on on network equipment in our data center environment, including device rack-mounting, structured cabling, and power/cooling management

Your Qualifications

1. University degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications or relevant studies in a related field.
2. Four plus (4+) years of experience in the networking environment
3. CISCO switch, router, Identity Services Engine (ISE), wireless LAN controller installation, configuration, management and troubleshooting experience
4. Experience in installation, configuration, management of FortiGate firewall, FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer.
5. Professional experience and extensive knowledge TCP/IP, NTP, DNS/DHCP, WLAN, VPN
6. CISCO voice system (CUCM) installation, configuration and management
7. Work Experience in data center environment i.e. rack and stack, structured cabling
8. Basic understanding of datacenter power and cooling systems
9. High level of responsibility, solution orientation and collaborative approach
