The Translational Metabolomics Core Facility at the University Children’s Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, University of Freiburg, is looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Mass Spectrometry Metabolomics to join our team as soon as possible.

About us:

The Translational Metabolomics Core Facility operates within the Research Division of the Center of Metabolism, Children’s Hospital, University of Freiburg, Germany. The Center of Metabolism comprises a multidisciplinary team of > 30 clinicians, scientists, and technical experts who collaborate internally and externally in translational research, diagnostics, and patient care. Scientific work in our team is transdisciplinary and includes currently funded collaborations with research groups in Nephrology, Immunology, Cancer, and Inborn Errors of Metabolism.

Job description:

The primary roles of the postdoctoral researcher will be:

1. Targeted quantitative metabolomics: Performing research projects in our two targeted LCMS/MS metabolomic platforms at MetaboCF. Contributing to innovation by implementing LCMS/MS cross-validation of untargeted metabolomics data.
2. Untargeted metabolomics: Developing an independent research project in untargeted metabolomics of fatty acid oxidation disorders using available biospecimens from local and collaborative cohorts of patients. Contributing to innovation by implementing untargeted metabolomics workflows for application in diagnostics.

In both roles, the postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for the operation of our LC-MS platforms, the generation of results reports for collaborating partners and clients, the preparation of publications and research grant applications, and regular participation in scientific conferences and symposia.

Applicant requirements:

1. PhD in LC-MS metabolomics or in another field with similar LC-MS experience.
2. Excellent project planning capacity with a solutions-oriented, executive mindset.
3. Outstanding interpersonal skills and adaptability to teamwork.
4. Proficient communication in English and preferentially in German.
5. Interest in working in a highly collaborative environment.

The position is full-time and limited to 2 years with the option of extension and/or long-term retention.
