Job Purpose
Sportlux is looking for a creative and commercially driven Womenswear Designer to join its Product Design team in Mendrisio. The role will be responsible for the end-to-end design and development of seasonal womenswear collections across Sportlux's portfolio of premium and luxury fashion brands.
Working closely with the Head of Design, Merchandising, Product Development, Sourcing, and Production teams, the successful candidate will translate global trends and brand direction into commercially successful collections while ensuring exceptional product quality and execution.
Key Responsibilities
Collection Design & Development
- Design and develop seasonal womenswear collections across multiple product categories, including tops, dresses, knitwear, outerwear, tailoring, bottoms, denim, accessories and lifestyle apparel.
- Research global fashion trends, consumer insights, competitor activity, and market developments to create innovative and commercially relevant collections.
- Develop seasonal mood boards, colour palettes, fabric stories, print direction, and silhouette concepts.
- Ensure all collections reflect the DNA, positioning, and creative vision of the assigned luxury and premium brands.
End-to-End Product Development
- Own the complete product development process from concept through to final production approval.
- Prepare detailed CADs, technical sketches, specifications, BOMs, and tech packs for product development.
- Work closely with pattern makers, garment technicians, and suppliers to ensure design intent is maintained throughout development.
- Review prototypes, fit samples, salesman samples, and production samples, providing detailed fit and construction comments.
Fabric, Trim & Material Development
- Source and develop fabrics, trims, embellishments, washes, and finishes aligned with seasonal direction and brand standards.
- Collaborate with sourcing teams and suppliers to identify innovative materials while maintaining quality and commercial objectives.
- Experience working with denim fabrics, garment washes, and premium finishing techniques will be considered a strong advantage.
Brand & Commercial Alignment
- Interpret brand guidelines and seasonal creative direction into market-ready collections.
- Balance creativity with commercial viability, ensuring collections meet target customer expectations and business objectives.
- Work closely with Merchandising and Planning teams to ensure product assortments are commercially balanced.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Product Development, Merchandising, Sourcing, Production, and Quality teams throughout the product lifecycle.
- Participate in design reviews, fit sessions, sample evaluations, and seasonal range presentations.
- Ensure all developments are delivered within seasonal critical paths and product launch timelines.
- The role requires flexibility and availability for international business travel, including supplier and factory visits.
Continuous Improvement
- Stay informed on emerging fashion trends, fabrics, sustainable innovations, and product development techniques.
- Contribute ideas to improve product quality, design processes, and speed-to-market.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Design, Apparel Design, Textile Design, or a related discipline.
- 3–5 years of experience in womenswear design within premium, contemporary, or international fashion brands.
- Strong understanding of garment construction, fit, fabrication, and technical product development.
- Hands-on experience managing the complete product development lifecycle from concept to production.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office; experience with PLM or CAD systems is an advantage.
- Exposure to licensed fashion brands or multi-brand environments is highly desirable.
- Experience in denim product development is considered a strong advantage.
