About Digital Dignity Digital Dignity is an NGO working to make the internet a safer space. We build survivor-first tech tools, shape digital-rights policy, and support a global community of people affected by online abuse. Our flagship product, the Intimate Image Finder & Remover , helps people detect and remove non-consensual intimate images online — directly addressing image-based sexual abuse (IBSA) , one of the core issues we exist to fight. We're a volunteer-powered organization: Since our founding, more than 65 volunteers from over 20 countries have contributed their expertise across engineering, design, law, mental health, and advocacy. All contributing toward a digital world where every identity is safe, respected, and free from abuse. The Role Our product has just launched in Beta, and we're looking for a Volunteer UX Designer to join our small product team and help take it from launch to a genuinely user-centered, trusted tool. You'll work closely with our Product Designer, focusing on research, usability, and iterative improvement rather than starting from scratch — this is a role for someone who wants to shape a real, live product used by people in vulnerable and sensitive situations. What you'll do Plan and run usability tests on existing and upcoming features Facilitate user feedback sessions , synthesizing input into actionable insights Analyze product and behavioral data to identify friction points and opportunities Improve the overall user experience across the app, from flows to interface details Collaborate directly with the Product Designer on upgrades, iterations, and new features Help translate research and data findings into design recommendations and prototypes Contribute to a trauma-informed, privacy-first design approach appropriate for survivors of image-based abuse and identity misuse What we're looking for Experience in UX design, ideally including usability testing and user research Comfort working with analytics and translating data into design decisions Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small, remote-first team A genuine interest in digital rights and digital human rights Sensitivity, empathy, and discretion when designing for topics like image-based sexual abuse (IBSA) and other forms of online harm — this product serves people at vulnerable moments, and the tone, language, and flow of every screen matters Alignment with Digital Dignity's mission and values Nice to have Experience designing for trust & safety, mental health, legal, or survivor-support products Familiarity with EU digital policy or human rights advocacy Based in or around Berlin What we offer Purpose & Impact: You are shaping a movement. Our work helps victims of image-based abuse, influences policy, and builds tools that protect dignity online. Direct Product Impact: Help improve a live product designed for people affected by image based sexual abuse. Meaningful Ownership: Take responsibility for defined UX research and improvement initiatives, from identifying friction points to developing recommendations. Startup Spirit with Mission: Become part of a purpose-driven NGO with a social startup mindset. We combine global scaling with deep local impact. Growth & Learning: Work closely with an experienced, interdisciplinary team spanning tech, law, policy, and advocacy. Gain exposure to global NGO networks, policy-making, and grassroots initiatives. Global Community, Local Anchor: Join our international team while being part of the Berlin community - one of our global hubs as a human rights NGO. Flexibility and Trust: Organize your work independently within an agreed scope and collaborate directly with the people responsible for the product. Freedom & Co-Creation: Experience autonomy, creativity, and trust. We don’t work in rigid hierarchies but in partnerships and a family feeling, built on openness, empowerment, and shared purpose. Logistics This is a volunteer position, unpaid, but a meaningful opportunity to apply your skills to a mission-driven product with real-world impact. We are growing dynamically and invite you to become part of something bigger. Your contribution changes lives and helps make the world a better place. Remote work is fully supported; we're a distributed, international team Berlin-based volunteers will have access to a coworking space for in-person work and connection with the local team Flexible time commitment, to be agreed based on availability. At least 10 hours per week are required to make a meaningful and impactful contribution to the project.
