They're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with strong Python experience to join a collaborative product team and take ownership of important backend services and cloud infrastructure.This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys building robust systems, improving performance and working closely with engineers across the wider product organisation.
The Role
Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing and developing scalable backend services using Python and AWS
- Building efficient serverless applications and APIs
- Working with technologies such as AWS Lambda, S3 and other AWS services
- Developing and maintaining APIs using frameworks such as FastAPI, Django or Flask
- Designing and optimising data solutions using PostgreSQL, DynamoDB and caching technologies
- Improving application performance, reliability and scalability
- Establishing and improving automated testing, including unit, integration and end-to-end testing
- Contributing to CI/CD processes and engineering standards
- Working with modern dependency and package management approaches
- Helping maintain clean, well-documented and maintainable codebases
- Contributing to the architecture and integration of backend services with other parts of the wider technology ecosystem
- Working closely with frontend engineers, QA, product, UX/UI and AI specialists
- Taking an active role in an agile development environment and contributing ideas that improve how the team works
What We're Looking For
You'll ideally bring:
- 5+ years of professional backend development experience
- Strong commercial experience with Python
- Experience with TypeScript and/or JavaScript
- Hands-on experience building APIs and backend services
- Experience with frameworks such as FastAPI, Django, Flask or similar
- Strong knowledge of relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL
- Experience with NoSQL technologies such as DynamoDB would be beneficial
- Good understanding of AWS and cloud-based architecture, particularly serverless technologies
- Experience with automated testing and modern software development practices
- Familiarity with CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions
- A good understanding of software architecture, design patterns, scalability and performance is a must
- Experience working within an agile engineering team
