Why This Role Matters The RNE (Registration, Numbers and Enablement) group within Vonage's Foundation Engineering department works across four core product domains: Registration, Numbers, Number Intelligence, and Know Your Customer (KYC).

Our senior engineers play a key role in driving technical quality and platform evolution, working on a modern cloud‑native stack across both greenfield and existing systems.

What You Will Do

• Design and develop highly concurrent, distributed backend services with a focus on high availability;
• Take solid ownership of architectural contributions, driving technical decisions within and across teams;
• Lead performance optimisation efforts and proactively diagnose complex system issues;
• Design, develop and test new features, setting a high bar for quality and reliability;
• Support the release and documentation of developed features;
• Define and champion coding standards and development processes;
• Mentor and support more junior engineers within the team;
• Provide out‑of‑hours support as part of an on‑call rota.

What You Will Bring Essential

• Strong programming skills in Go (Golang) or deep experience with JVM technologies (Java/Spring Boot) and a strong desire to move to Go;
• Proven experience developing and maintaining enterprise‑grade systems at scale;
• Solid experience with highly concurrent, distributed architectures and systems;
• Solid experience contributing to and driving architectural decisions;
• Experience with containerised applications and cloud‑native environments;
• Experience profiling and optimising performance at scale;
• Experience building REST/HTTP based services;
• Strong experience with relational and non‑relational databases (e. g. Postgre SQL, Redis);
• Strong test suite design skills, including Unit, Integration and Smoke tests, enabling safe promotion of code to production without manual intervention;
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical problems and solutions clearly.

Nice to Have

• Hands‑on experience with AWS (SQS, SNS, Dynamo DB), Kafka, Kubernetes or Terraform;
• Understanding of Continuous Delivery in cloud environments;
• General understanding of the telecommunications industry.
