JOB DESCRIPTION
We are looking for an experienced and highly skilled SoC Functional Safety Architect to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in system-on-chip (SoC) design, functional safety standards (ISO 26262), and risk management practices for automotive or other safety-critical applications. As an SoC Functional Safety Architect, you will be responsible for ensuring that our SoC designs meet the highest functional safety standards (ASIL B/D), ensuring safety integrity across various subsystems and IPs, and contributing to the development of safety-critical applications from concept to production.
This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies for our highly complex SoC and image pipeline development projects.
- Lead the development and implementation of functional safety concepts for SoC designs, ensuring compliance with industry standards such as ISO 26262, IEC 61508, and other relevant safety regulations.
- Work with cross-functional teams (hardware, software, verification, physical design, and validation) to ensure the integration of functional safety mechanisms within the SoC architecture.
- Develop safety requirements and conduct risk assessments to identify hazards, potential failure modes, and safety goals for SoC designs.
- Define and document safety-related architectural patterns, including fault detection, fault tolerance, and error handling mechanisms.
- Support safety analyses such as FMEA, FTA, DFA, and FMEDA for SoC designs and complex IPs.
- Collaborate with software teams to ensure functional safety requirements are met at both the hardware and software levels (e.g., through diagnostic software, bootloaders, fault management routines, etc.).
- Develop safety documentation in compliance with ISO 26262, including Safety Concepts, Safety Requirements Specifications, Safety Reports, and Safety Architecture / Design Specifications.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers on functional safety principles and implementation techniques.
We are more than 100 engineers in Germany and the Netherlands with a focus on the development and design of complex digital SoCs, Embedded Software and discrete Systems, having design centers in Hannover, Hamburg, Braunschweig and Waalre (NL). More than 25 years of experience in the micro-electronics industry make us experts in turnkey solutions from specification to production and delivery – including embedded Linux or Android based Board Support Packages (BSP), Linux or Android driver development or porting, and high-speed PCB design with all necessary qualifications like CE and FCC.
With a clear focus on imaging and computer vision applications in the automotive and mobile markets our clients can always rely on our expertise and outstanding engineering skills.
Joining Dream Chip Technology means working in a professional work environment. We offer you the opportunity to grow your skills in an open-minded, very experienced team. With internal and external training, you will continuously improve your competencies. You will become part of the SoC development team and work with state-of-the-art tools and technology in a flexible and pleasant work environment.
You are highly motivated, not afraid of taking responsibility, and you are a team player. Besides having excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, you are an efficient professional, and you like to help extend our organization for further growth.
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or comparable.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in SoC design and functional safety for safety-critical applications (automotive, industrial, or similar domains).
- Able to collaborate with international development teams.
- Deep understanding of ISO 26262 and other safety standards.
- Proven track record in performing safety analysis methods (FMEA, FTA, DFA, FMEDA, etc.) for complex SoC architectures.
- Experience with safety-related hardware mechanisms (e.g., redundancy, error detection and correction, watchdog timers).
- Familiarity with hardware and software co-design for functional safety in SoCs.
- TĂśV certified functional safety engineer according to ISO 26262 is an advantage.
- Hands-on experience with safety verification and validation techniques is an advantage.
- Strong understanding of system-on-chip (SoC) architectures, digital circuits, and ASIC/FPGA design.
- Experience using tools like Midas, MATLAB/Simulink, Codebeamer, and automated verification tools for functional safety analysis is an advantage.
- Deep knowledge of requirements management is an advantage.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
