Software Development Manager in München

As a Software Development Manager, you will lead engineering teams responsible for designing, developing, and scaling enterprise SaaS products. You will work closely with Product, Engineering, QA, DevOps, Design, Business, and Customer-facing teams to deliver high-quality products while building a strong engineering culture. This is a leadership role for someone who combines technical depth, people management, product thinking, and strong execution.

The candidate will have responsibilities across the following functions:

Engineering and People Leadership:

• Lead, mentor, and develop high-performing software engineering teams.
• Build a culture of ownership, accountability, engineering excellence, and continuous improvement.
• Manage hiring, onboarding, performance management, career development, and team growth.
• Develop engineering managers, technical leads, and senior engineers.
• Drive engineering productivity and delivery predictability.

Product and Delivery:

• Partner with Product Management to translate business and customer requirements into technical solutions.
• Own sprint planning, engineering execution, release planning, and roadmap delivery.
• Manage priorities, dependencies, risks, and technical trade-offs.
• Drive Agile/Scrum practices across engineering teams.
• Balance feature delivery with platform scalability, technical debt, reliability, and long-term architecture.

Technical Leadership:

• Provide technical direction across architecture and system design.
• Guide teams in building scalable distributed systems and microservices.
• Participate in architecture reviews and critical technical decisions.
• Maintain high standards for code quality, security, performance, reliability, and maintainability.
• Drive engineering best practices, automation, testing, and continuous improvement.

Cloud, DevOps and Scalability:

• Partner with DevOps teams on cloud infrastructure and platform reliability.
• Drive improvements across: AWS / Azure / GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, Monitoring and Observability, Release Automation, Application Performance, Production Reliability.
• Improve scalability, availability, performance, and operational efficiency.

Customer and Stakeholder Management:

• Participate in customer-facing technical discussions and solutioning.
• Support technical escalations and enterprise customer requirements.
• Communicate engineering progress, risks, dependencies, and timelines to senior leadership.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Business, Sales, Customer Success, QA, and DevOps teams.

Requirements:

• 10-15 years of software engineering experience.
• 4+ years of engineering people-management experience.
• Mandatory experience in a product-based software company
• Strong technical background in C++ OR Java
• Experience with: Distributed Systems, Microservices, REST APIs, System Design, Database Design and Optimisation, AWS / Azure / GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, Production Systems, Monitoring and Observability.
• Proven experience leading engineering teams and delivering complex software products.
• Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum and modern software development practices.

Preferred Experience:

• B2B SaaS / Enterprise SaaS experience.
• Experience building enterprise-scale software platforms.
• Experience working with global/enterprise customers.
• SaaS platform architecture and scalability experience.
• Exposure to AI/ML or GenAI products.
• Experience in a high-growth startup or scale-up environment.
• Experience working with globally distributed engineering teams.
