About the team and the role:

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer – Backend (d/f/m) who will be part of a team leveraging AI to remove prohibited, restricted, and counterfeit listings from eBay. You will lead the development of modern Python and Spring Boot / Java web applications by developing system designs, helping to define the technical roadmap, steering the team on all technical aspects, and implementing code.

What you will accomplish:

• Help the more junior team members by mentoring and guiding them, drive architectural decisions, align technical decisions with the broader organization, and evolve the roadmap to meet anticipated future requirements.

• Understand requirements of new products and translate these requirements into a scalable software architecture.

• Implement Python and Java/Spring Boot based back-end web services.

• Assure delivery of high-quality software by setting up robust CI/CD pipelines, designing and writing tests, contributing to code reviews and code debugging, and by writing documentation.

• Own major projects and features from design phase to coding, testing, deployment and support.

• Become a domain expert of the highly complex ecosystem of compliance and payments within eBay.

What you will bring:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or similar technical degree, with 8 years of experience designing and developing highly scalable web applications.

• In-depth experience in translating requirements into scalable and future-proof software architectures. Broad knowledge of design patterns and technologies used in designing web applications.

• Proficiency and hands-on experiences in back-end development of RESTful web services using Python, Java / Spring Boot and optionally GoLang.

• Working knowledge of tools such as Jira, Git is required.

• Familiar with writing unit tests with mocking and with DevOps practices (ideally in GCP)
