Postdoctoral Position in Optical Systems for Advanced Biofabrication
The Tissue Engineering and Biofabrication Laboratory (Prof. Marcy Zenobi-Wong) at ETH Zurich develops light-based 3D bioprinting techniques to engineer functional tissues with multi-scale porosity and topological guidance. Embedded within the Department of Health Sciences and Technology (D-HEST) and the Institute for Biomechanics, our group bridges biomedical engineering, materials science and biology. We are seeking an Optical Systems/Photonics Engineer to design and build light-delivery systems that shape light profiles to control hydrogel architecture.
- Design, simulate, and build custom optical setups and beam-shaping trains
- Characterize how structured light fields interact with photosensitive polymers
- Collaborate within an interdisciplinary team of bioengineers, chemists, and biologists to translate photonic concepts into engineered scaffolds for regenerative medicine
Profile
- PhD in Optical Engineering, Photonics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering (optics emphasis), or a related discipline
- Hands-on experience with laser beam shaping, phase modulation
- Software development for optical modeling and numerical analysis (Python, MATLAB, or equivalent)
- Strong academic output relative to career stage, evidenced by high-quality publications or working papers
- Interest in translating optical physics towards products useful in tissue engineering
- Strong motivation to collaborate with interdisciplinary scientists
- Excellent written and spoken English
Experience in one or more of the following areas is advantageous:
- Multi-photon polymerization for optical devices
- Meta-lens/meta-surfaces
- Adaptable optics
